Comparison

Anyone have a good non-partial comparison of moo3 and GalCiv (at least to the latest beta)?

How so? Im playing Moo3 at the moment and it really isn't that bad.

Mind mentioning some of the key differences?

Well.. I have not played Moo3 but I have read a lot about it on the IG boards. I am hoever playing GalCiv gamma on regular basis though.

Some of the differences off the top of my head would be:

- Reasonable learning curve. I would say it will take you an hour to get a good understanding of what is what in GalCiv.

- Diplomacy: Unlike in Moo3 (from the user reports I read) if another empire sends you a message saying to stop an action it will actualy tell you what that action is. For example I would get a message from Drengin asking me whay do I have a starbase in a sector X-Y which is close to them (or in their teritory). They would point out it is not extracting any resources and will question my motives.
Another thing I like is that the actual communication with other empires is quite funny at times.

- There is no tactical battles in GalCiv. It is more like Civ battle system.

Uhmm.. I'll write down some more if I can remember

One problem with moo3 is that there are alot of techs(good :) but you gett hem very fast (bad). So by the time a ship is designed and built, it is pretty out of date. SO it is impossible to field a lastest technology ship really. How is this aspect in GalCiv?

The battles in moo3 are actually pretty cool. The graphics arn't cutting edge, but I like them. Just something about seeing near misses, missles streaking toward their target and such. Course it does have drawbacks, sitting there and watching 2 ships do nothing is boring, aklso watching my ship trying to chase a slighty faster one for 10 minutes sucks.

:)

Well one difference in GalCiv that there is no ship design. There are no specific weapons you can research to outfit your ships with. You can research better armours, shilds, repair and speed bonuses but they are applied on all the ships as soon as reasearch is done. You reasearch new military techs and as you do new types of ships apear in your build cue.

How is that? One of the fun parts of moo was ship design. Does the lack of this take away much?
