How to Hide The Recycle Bin on Windows xp (works)

1 - On Start Menu, choose "Run" and type Regedit.

2 - a) If you are using the XP style start menu:
Search for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel\

If you are working with the classic menu:
Search for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMenu\

3 - Inside, right click and create a new DWORD-Value with the name "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}".

4 - Right click on the new value, choose 'Modify' and change the Value to "1".

I'm appalled that you want to hide your recycling bin, recycling is very important in the fight against global warming.

Or you can just use duct tape over the recycle bin.

Desktop customization (and this site) is all about making the experience fit the individual better. Some people like an empty desktop. To each their own, right?
