Looking Good

Just wanted to say howdy, and I'm really looking forward to this game. I've read a lot of posts here and can identify with almost everything said. At least from what I read. Yes, depending on your point of view MOO3 was a let down. Or depending on how you look at it, the game was good. Personally I was rather disappointed after playing it.

After a bit of looking I found galciv which to my delight looks exactly like a 4X game should be. The graphics look good, the interface looks good. I'm really looking forward to this game.

To the people who made it, I congratulate you on listening to your fans. That is very huge! I'm looking forward to owning this game. From what I've seen and read, it looks amazing. Keep up the good work.

Hi Gzzrt!

Welsome to the game :) It is a very addictive game, and a lot of fun to play. Be warned that you can lose weekends playing this game, it has that wait till the next turn feel. There are a lot of great members in the forum and feel free to ask any questions

having played 4x games since civ 1, i can say that galciv is the best strategy game i have ever played. and that was the beta. i've heard that a lot of good improvements were made in the rcs and the release probably has even more.

during the betas of the game it was amazing how much better each beta would be and how quickly those improvements came. the bonus pack has me really excited because i have seen how much these guys can do in a single month.

Thank you for the welcome. Wow, you guys sure are friendly. And I mean that too. Not every board has people that would welcome the noob's. Most just tell them to read the faq's and don't ask questions until you have. If this is the kind of response that I'm going to get from people here, then I will definately support this game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've seen so far you could almost call this civilizations in space. Hence the title I suppose. Whatever you call it, this game looks like it has some serious potential. Especially with the developers saying that they are going to support it after it launchs. I have a friend who works for a rather large game company and I know that they tend to just rush a game out and then move on to the next one. The fact that even three months after the game they're still going to be tweaking it I find very encouraging.

I also like the idea of the Metaverse immensely. (Yes I know, my spelling isn't the best. No spell check on the forum for me.) The fact that I can post my score and compete with ppl that way is a really cool idea. It means that if I prefer the science approach to the game I can still beat the guys score who goes for the militaristic approach. This isn't even taking into account the time that would be needed to play a multiplayer game through in one sitting. Being able to pause the game and deal with RL is a very good idea. Something that can be tough to do in a multiplayer situation.

Once again, thanks for the welcome and I look forward to putting my name on the Metaverse board!

Hi Gzzrt,
About the title of the game Galactic Civilizations, is what it is because of it's predecessor, Galactic Civilizations, which was a Mac game, featuring multi-threading as one of the first games.
That said, it's not far off saying it's Civilizations in space, only it's so much more :)

Basically, it's about empire building, and as you said yourself, there are multiple approaches to victory :)

The Multiverse is great, but will be even better than it is now. The creation of player empires (i.e. clans) will be implemented at some point, giving the competition feel an extra nudge, which is basically one of the most innovative features I've ever read about for this type of game :)

Welcome to the fora, hope you enjoy your stay here.

Actually, the original GC was written for OS/2, the IBM operating system.

My Mac friends are very disappointed that we aren't making a Mac version. Has anyone tried running it on an emulator?

if your mac friends want to play computer games, their need to clue into the market and make their hardware purchases accordingly.

If not for games, I would not be running Winblows on my PC.

uh-oh, I can feel an upcoming PC Vs MAC conflict ;)

they could go for Linux, instead of MS WIN - say, does Galciv run on Linux?

I heard Unreal 2 ran without a hitch, and that Moo3 runs with an win emulator on linux - nice move actually.
