What is moddable?

So what will the players be able to mod in the game?

You can edit nearly all the text in the language file(default for english is english.str). You can add your own events, ships, anomalies(still don't know howto spell that), technologys, social improvments, wonders and galactic acheivments. You can change many of the grafics if you have the right programs.(Supposedly in the BonusPak there will be a tool to add your own ships)

GCiv uses .bik to store movie files... you can make these from many diffrent files types if you use the rad tools available at www.radgametools.com So with that you can edit any of the current movies. You would also be able to add tech movies(small image animation for each tech) and social improvements movies(same as tech).

What you can't mod right now: the AI... Brad has stated that it is hardcoded. Each AI has its own set of personalitys that can not be changed(besides alignment/inteligence modifications).

I have been working on a Babylon 5 mod on the gamma, and it is turning out really well. A screenshot of it is here: http://www.jonaswills.com/image.php?id=3

I have been thinking of many events and issues to add to the mod, if you are interested in helping(major b5 fan is a must!) you can e-mail me at [email protected] and once the game comes out I expect to see much progress.

Looks cool DarkHelmet. Looks like there maybe several B5 mods...I'm doing one too. :D

DarkHemet

Excellent Mod, Great choices for Alignment and Intelligence. With all those chaotic races life in the B5 Universe will be most interesting.

I guess I will have to wait until the game ships to see how the AI handles modded techs, ships, improvements, wonders, and achievements.

Funny how "modifiable" is a forgotten word now I guess... "moddable," is just ugly. At any rate, GalCiv's "modifiability" is impressive. ;)

A b5 mod would be great... but is the harcoded AI able to accuratly represent the factions? Like the Shadows? Guess all they would do is kill :)

There used to be a game called Escape Velocity... that has great mods available for it... star wars, b5, star trek etc...

Mike C, you are right about the AI and what we know about the races of the B5 universe. For my B5 mod, I'm going to set the Precursors to Vorlons and the Dark Lords to Shadows. For the other B5 races, it simply will not be possible to make direct comparisons between the GalCiv B5 race and the race in the B5 universe.

Ahhh... but I am saving the precursors for the Old ones and the Dark Lords for the thirdspace aliens... those will really spice it up :)

How will these Mods end? In fire...

I won't argue with Widowm@ker or DarkHelmet's choices for Precursors and Dark Lords, they both make sense. The B5 crowd has all visited the B5 Lurker's Guide (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html), right? It had a link to the "Encyclopedia Xenobiologica" that now appears to be dead. I mention these sites for two reasons.

1) It's "Minbari", not "Mimbari". ;p
2) The Encyclopedia Xenobiologica site had at least one decent picture of a Shadow that would look much cooler than Mr. Morden. I'm guessing that that picture, or something similar, is still caught in the 'net somewhere and worth finding.

Just a thought... Would these Mods work better as scenarios? That is:

a) You start off as the Human leader, with a two planet system (Earth and Mars)
b) All AIs are set to their B5 equivalents (say LE Centauri, LG Minbari, CN Narn, a minor League of Non-Aligned Worlds, etc.)
c) AIs have a pre-determined level of advanced technology and whatever limits/bonuses you deem fitting
d) Limit the Random Events file to fit the B5 universe, modify the tech tree and its descriptions to reflect telepathy and other B5 techs, etc.
e) Save the game and post it as the starting point of a scenario

Could they be done this way, or would it be too much trouble getting the random settings to align? (starting planets, tech levels, etc.)

If Stardock is willing, they could be stored in the library with other modification sets.

End transmission.

I hope several good mods develop from unknown (new) species. I haven't watched 5 hours of television in since 5 years maybe ten. Movies, thats another thing. The worldS of X-Men?
Planet Vampires vs. Planet Lawyers? Oops same thing.

Bizarre you make many good points, and many of them I had in mind for creating this(new ships, tech, events ect...).

Some of those things are also not possible yet as far as I can see, but I would do them if I could.

I chose Mr. Morden for the Shadow ambasador becasue he IS the shadow ambasador...

If we release Mutil, pretty much everything is moddable including the UI. ;)

That said, ships, techs, improvements, events, etc. are all text files.

I'll be submitting a few here to help get people started.
