Sins Official IRC Channel

Sins Official IRC Channel

Stop in and chat for a while!

If anyone wants to stop in and chat (with us or each other) or just wants another IRC channel to idle in, the official IRC channel for Sins of a Solar Empire is accessible on irc.stardock.com, port 6667, channel #sins (if you have an IRC client that supports irc links, just click the link at the bottom of this post!).

If you don't have an IRC client already, Impulse has basic built-in IRC functionality. Just go to the Chat section under the Community tab, select #sins from the dropdown, and click Connect.

You can get Impulse here if you don't have it already. Just install it and log in with your account details from the forum here and you're good to go!

Considering that Impulse is the new product release program, is there any chat functionality inside Impulse?

Yes, click on the Community tab and Chat. It's basically a built-in IRC client that connects to irc.stardock.com and you can join the same channels.

I am on the IRC now, and it's added to the other four networks I frequent.(Why does everyone insist  on having their own IRC network.. grumble..)

Because everyone wants to be cool...  From a business standpoint, since it is a business-related channel, I can understand the rationale for wanting to be able to control the IRC server itself.  However, I do also wonder if it might make some sense to set up Sins and Gal Civ II channels on major gaming networks such as GameSurge and Quakenet.

Thank you!

My point exactly. I mean, I am on some networks where I am only there to be on ONE channel. Seems so redundant when they can easily fit inside other categories.

Meh.  I use pidgin and autologon to the servers/channels I follow.  At that point, it's just one more window . . who cares how many servers?  :)

Pshh, only on Stardock's IRC server can we be amused at eets and slurple getting kicked by the admins for the hell of it. Not to mention that only on Stardock's IRC server can we actually terrorize the SD guys :P

I found the Sins IRC channel very unhelpful. About thirty people were on at the time, but only one answered my questions, and then stopped responding after two answers. Is this normal?

J.

Edit: the time I was on: 10am EST, Sunday 8 Feb. Bad time?

It's fairly normal. A lot of us are on IRC while our computers are powered up, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're paying attention :P I try to answer questions there when I see them, though.

When I'm on, which is rare, I only check back every half hour or so...

I'll have to use better glue next time, and maybe some rope. :)

I'm using mIRC and every time I join the channel '#sins' there isn't anyone on.  Has the channel changed or are there just no idlers?

There are always idlers there, irc.stardock.com #sins is correct!

If you need help you might check #stardock too.

One never knows who might be there.

I have my IRC client flash and make a unique sound when my nick is mentioned.  Always worth a try to ask help from a admin.

I've been hopping on recently to discuss conceptual stuff about potential mods and the like. If that sort of thing is interesting, anyway. It's not like it was being used for much else ;)

On a sidenote, when was the last time devs or the like showed up? I get the impression it was a long time ago, but I'm just curious.

The Ironclad guys usually tend to only pop in IRC around release/patch times. There are usually some of us Stardock people idling around 24/7 though (may be afk during off hours, though).

Actually, I was about to reply when you logged out ;)

I tend to take a bit to notice traffic, given I admin another network so get pretty used to the thing blinking at me all the time, but I try to converse when I'm about. All it'd take is a few others to do the same and it could be pretty decent.

Nope, no multiplayer. You, uh, should really be buying the game though.

edit: Whoops, nevermind. I should really pay more attention, or post when I'm less tired. :P

The game doesn't have a campaign, but if you'd like, you could just play every single map in sequence, perhaps starting with the small ones and moving on to the larger ones and pretend that that's a campaign, switching up the races you play and play against now and then.  You could also extend the campaign by downloading custom maps (just make sure that they have been updatd to work the latest versions of the game).  Once you've done all of that, if you are getting bored and seek a greater challenge, you could click on the "Ironclad Online" button and come discover the challenges of online multiplayer where you can enjoy having human teammates, camraderie, and perhaps even make Sins friends.

Does anyone ever post on the IRC? theres people in there but no talking atm
End of SlurmNator's quote

I think the IRC channel activity is pretty much dead.  Part of that is because IRC is now old school and few gamers (at least those under, say, age 20) know that it exists and the other reason is because of the online multiplayer Lobby chat channel (which is the default).  If you really want to talk to other Sins players, I suggest clicking the Ironclad Online button, registering an account, choosing a player name and then joining the ICO lobby.  You should be able to find people to talk to during European and North American prime time (from, say, 3 pm U.S. Eastern Standard Time to around 2 am).  It's not as chatty as we might like, but people do discuss Sins strategy and other game-related stuff on there.
