Well, the public beta for Sins of a Solar Empire is currently programmed for january 2007

oh come on, that could *not* have been actuall gameplay

it just couldnt.

If you ever played Nexus then yes, it could. Not as good looking as this tech demo but pretty close. I am assuming it may be running on an enhanced version of the black sun engine.

Is 10 months really that far off?

Nexus 2 can look like that, in-game. I have Nexus and it looks pretty damn good for being a year or two ago.

the video on that link above doesn't work

Works fine for me...
Why wouldn't they release a game with so good an engine that looks so close to release?

I don't know what sins will looks like, but hopefully its something like that.

either they completed that one ship, and nothing else, or...

maybe they were making promises they couldnt live up to.

Gee, I hope the NASA would have liked that game. They would have been the only one with computer powerful ennough to run it...
exactly, you cannot expect a normal computer to play in that detail, and its just not worth playing otherwise...

...unless if your... um... in it for the strategy...

a computer to have the specs to play a game like that in all the beautiful glory...would cost around 7grand or more. I myself would love to just attempt to run it....that looked great. (they should just turn that into a movie...rarely see movies that look that great with space battles these days)

the original nexus was pretty close and that was 2 years ago and had been in development alot longer than that so i don't see why with the newer cards that would not be even remotely possible.
I dont think the original nexus was remotely that close. all things considered
Reply #20 Top
Oh ye of little faith:

Original nexus:

ss1 ss2
-_- you dont see the huge, glaring differences between the two do you...
i look at those screenshots and i feel a generation gap
Reply #23 Top
No, I don't. I see a reasonable evolution. Like from homeworld to homeworld 2.
*shrug* as similar as the screenies look together the actuall gameplay is the only thing that can be measured here, and keep in mind that the things that really drag on the hardware aren't the things out in the open

but then again, everyone has different definitions, so I wont rake on you just because we dissagree

even though it has CGI spelled all over it, it could be ingame

A little gift for the fans of the original. HDi released the tech trailer for the fans. This is what Nexus 2 would have been. Enjoy.

Now, tech trailer == ingame

but uhh...
real mapping over a whole ship, specualr lighting one hundreds of effects, real beamweapons, realistic physics...and that's just for 2 ships, imagine nexus=like battles with fleets of at least 8vs8.

My videocard will cook, flare and die out, quickly followed by my CPU and whatever's left.
