F.E.A.R.

go buy it... now!!! dont stare at the post BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!

for anyone who has played this game (and seriously gotten into it) you know what I mean when I say this shit is SCARY.
anyone who hasnt bought it needs to. I intentionally left huge gaps of playing time (days at times) between levels just because I wanted to savor every spine tingling second.

this game is, by far, the best game I have ever played. I dont create posts ranting about a single game for nothing.
and the way they end it...

wtf stardock, where are the drool smilies? I'M GONNA NEED A LOT HERE!!!

but seriously, I have to highly recommend this game. it isnt one of those Doom like shit-your-pants because something came out from behind a door scary, oh hell, its much much better. this thing is cutting edge in psychological terror. it is CREEPY
and alma... *shiver*

I don't agree, the game just wasn't scary to me, I enjoyed it for being an fps not scary, I beat it like a year ago when it came out for the PC. The parts where your player is walking down the hallway and then your suddenly in a hallway filled up to your chest in blood was pretty cool, but I feel cheated because the game didn't really scare me. I tried so hard for it to scare me, I played it in the dark and everything . That part of the game just never got me. Yes alma was a weird thing, special considering who she really is to your player.

i never really found it that scary. a few times it made me jump with the ceiling fan ninjas... but that's about it. it seemed like the whole game was building up to something bigger, and more exciting, and just never delivered.

ah, see the thing is if you dont actually get into it, you wont find it scary
you can go through the game feeling all roses and daisies, but your not gonna have fun with it. this game can scare anyone, but if you just run through without taking half a second to absorb the atmosphere, well then.
you missed the entire point of the game.

*spoilers*

first of all, the nuclear explosion wasnt enough??? damn taht was awesome (and when she pops up in the helicopter! mommy wants her kid back.)
second of all they aren't finished. there will be more games.
*spoilers end*

I played it in the dark and everything .

thats not what helps here. not at all.
just tell me, did you run through the levels? (like litterally run through areas without gunfights, ignore all the blood oozing out of vents and think not think "damn, wtf did they do that for)
if you did then shame on you.
if you didnt, well then. I dunno.

you see the game isnt jump out of your seat type scary. this isnt doom. the idea is to creep you out psychological manipulation. you have to be fully sensory in tune. if you run through, dont pay extreme attention, or if you play the music too loud (or too soft) then your just messing with the atmosphere.

I'm not going to get into an arguement about whether this game is scary, it is. but you do need to play a certain style.

The A.I makes the game great fun.I found the story very weak. The early levels were creepy.

if you want a game that will scare the shit out of you, play the fatal frame series.

I'll take that into advice.

If you want a REALLY scary game, go play System Shock 2. Holy crap. Probably the greatest game ever when it comes to scare factor. The game is so well crafted that the environment just seems scary everywhere, despite it being from 1999. Oh, such a good game, don't think it's in stores anymore, though.

I liked F.E.A.R., I didn't think it was all that amazing, though. It was definately scary at times [assassins!] and that Alma chick is freaky, but most of it was just crazy ass ninja jump kicking and soccer punching. Of course, that's something I'm always into.

The free multiplayer thing is worth trying. It's fun to play with friends, especially on a LAN. "Hey, turn around, you need to see this!" *WHACK, foot to the FACE*

I think the story is interesting, especially since

***SPOILER***

Alma is your mom. No, I never ran through the levels, sometimes I get turned around in the levels since there are usually multiple paths to one objective. I would usually end up fighting 3-4 times a level.

that can also ruin the atmosphere. your not supposed to dwell on areas that you've bypassed.

but w/e that doesnt matter

but man
***SPOILER***
the end was freaky, "what was that noise?"
Well the reason I usually dwelled on the places I've already been past was to look for health booster and reflex boosters, seems like they where always hiding around the corner. What that noise was, I have no Idea lol. I had to read the wiki article on it just to fill in gaps of the story.

What that noise was, I have no Idea lol

it was Alma!!!
how didnt you see her, she comes up over the edge at the very last second

the only thing I'm pissed about is taht they didnt release the expansion pack for the consols. that sucks big time.
Yeah, but it never seems to come from her..anyways, they should of included the expansion in the game when they released it for 360..wouldn't have been to hard.
yeah, no kidding. and its not like they juiced us for more money, they just didnt release it.

and I think it was alma as she flew up to the plane, and then grabbed on. she's pissed, of course she isnt gonna go slow.
Yeah, I could of swore it shows her hanging on the like the landing thing of the helicopter.
wouldn't you be pissed after being locked up in a comatose cell for 20+ years only to realize your immortal pain through a psychic connection to your son who was taken away from you AFTER they took away your other son? at BIRTH?
Yes, I would be mad, but i wouldn't try to kill my son..certain parts of the game seems like alma is trying to do that to you.
FEAR fans should definitely watch PANICS (People Acting Normal In Crazyass Situations) from the makers of Red vs Blue, mild language but very funny.

but i wouldn't try to kill my son

I dont think she was. she leads you outside the facility (although, admitedly, she does attack you along the way)
I think she's just here to take you back with her.

i played it an liked only for the graphix and the story line, which was attention grabbing, yet it didn't really seem to deliver and it only managed to scare me a few time, but other than that i just went through it for the fps aspect of it.
but other than that it is a game i would recommend.

If you want a fun physiological game, play Penumbra Tech Demo.
http://frictionalgames.com/penumbradownload/

It's not very long, made me stop playing several times through.

It did so well the devs (Frictional Games) decided to make a commercial version of it; Penumbra Overture (episode 1) and Penumbra Black Plague (episode 2)
