February (is not) SOASE BETA month!!!!!

edited for the last time 2/26/07

I actually had a dream that the beta came out...
wierd...
Playtesting the rough early Beta of the game isnt going to satisfy you as a player anyways because so much stuff will be borked, broken, biffed, boffo, or whatever B word you'd like to use

thats the point of beta testing, we fix things.

and besides, it'd still be satisfying. probably more so if we can shape the outcome.

I didnt say it wouldnt be satisfying, Spamninja. I said it wouldnt satisfy you as a "player"... until the games actually playable from a "nonbrokenish" viewpoint, to encourage people to temper their expectations and dial down a bit of the rabid frothing.

Intrinsic warm and glowy feeling derived from "helping to make the game better for all mankind" aside, the best course of action remains to occupy yourself with some non-beta games (we are forunuate to have a wealth of good strategy games available right now), it'll be out when its out, (and probably not in february).

But please, continue your hairsplitting.

Now, now, they'll be plenty of warm fuzzy's to go around.

Is it possible to get another trailer or gameplay videos, before the beta. Or is the beta close enough that a trailer would be pointless?

just as a cynical side note:
I think this post should be renamed just "It's February"

you know weren't we promised an update before weeks end? its weeks end and nothing... Sigh where's my beta?

Give em a break. It'll come.

I'm sure almost all beta-enrolees agree with me when I say this:
we payed 50 god blessed $ a whole freaking 6 months before the game came out, a bit of punctuality would be nice.
at the very least we've earned rights to be irritated.
I'm far from irritated about the delays but it's very late in the month I'd like to know whats going on - I don't want march 1st to roll around with no news.

Well, you wont pay until the beta is released.

Really? id rather use the word "impassioned" since we didnt pay for anyhing, so we cant complain

And my guess will be around the end of feb or the start of march, since thats where ppl get paid

WRONG!!! - We can complain about ANYTHING - good reason's not required!

Sure we CAN complain about about anything. But talking about a release date id say it has something to do with ppl are impatient?

Like others have said, easy up, it will come when its ready. Why put out a product you know is faulty?

Well, in a way we payed. You have to keep the money ready in your account, for the day it will be charged, so you can´t spent it for something else. But thats not the point.

It has been anounced that this month, the beta will be published. If anything happens to delay this, wouldn´t it be prudent to tell the customer about it?

Of course, this is all a little premature, as there are still a few days left for the beta to be out on schedule

sorry, I used current when I meant to say "we're going to"

and the end result is the same, I'm donating quite a bit of precious money to something that isn't gonna be out for a while.

Why put out a product you know is faulty?

quality is nice and quaint, but us getting the beta is not really going to affect that. in fact us jumping in would help.

OMG you all drive me crazy!!!!!!!

First off... If 50 dollars is a lot of money to you, you need to not be buying games, and save some money so that you can be in the situation where spending 50, 100, 1000, dollars is not a big deal. Or better yet buy a good book called "Rich Dad Poor Dad", it prolly cost around 10 bucks (its an older book) and learn about the true value of money, and learning to save so you can have money for the things you want.

Next issue... The said the BETA would be out by the end of the winter season, that is March 21st here in the states. One of the guys at Ironclad had mentioned it as possibly the end of January early February. By mid February Ironclad told us it would not be out before February 20th. So calm down, go play some GalCiv2, and just take it easy, it will be out when its ready. Constant bickering about when it will be out and why its not out, will only tick off the people making it, I know it would tick me off it I was them.

I agree with you lordkosc. Am I a little diasappointed that it's looking like February may not be the month? YES.

This is something that we can't really change, so quit worrying about it.

The last thing the developers want is for the beta to come out before they have got the basics of the game the way they need to be. They don't want you guys posting here about how the beta was disappointing.

They may also be waiting for these reviews to be disseminated to as many persons as possible so they can get a larger number of beta testers involved.

The customer is always right, we should get mad! It's our right, we are the life blood!

I don't get this, "Why release something that isn't ready." It's a beta, it's going to be far from ready anyway. I just don't want to end up with a beta that comes not too far off the official release date. Won't leave much in how much can change, who knows...there may be some major changes to make...this is a new genre afterall.

As for them not wanting us to talk about how the beta is disappointing...that'll happen anyway. Not to say the game is bad, necessarily. But it's a beta, we're going to find faults no matter how much they 'prepare' it. Hell, we've already found faults with DA, regardless of how much we love it and continue to play it.

So you have to pay to get into the beta; be a assurd a spot in the beta; or pre-order the game and with the pre-order, be assurd a spot in the beta?

I assume it is the 3rd option, but I would like to be sure.

THAT SIR is Correct!

After much thought, I can wait for them to release the beta when they want to. I'd rather have a beta thats ready, and not one that crashed every time you try and start it up. Or a whole other host of problems. Just calm down and wait you !@#!@. They will release it when they are ready, I don't care if you have the right to complain. You should be thanking them that they are even making this game.

Also in regards to the customer being always right, that is complete BS. The customer is dependent 100% on the product owner (Ironclad/Stardock) for this game, they are not dependent on us in the short term, as the game will be out no matter what we say or do. ((The purpose of the beta is a mutual scratching of backs, where we get a taste of the game while testing it for them so its bug-free at release time.)) What they are dependent on is that the game is such a hit, as to warrant future products from them, thus keeping them in business.

Perfect example of this is Studio Gigante, they released Wrestlemania 21 for the Xbox a year or two ago, and it was a huge flop, they didn't listen to the people reviewing the game and giving suggestions. After releasing 1 half-arse patch to fix the broken and unplayable multi-player aspect of the game they went out of business.

The said the BETA would be out by the end of the winter season

thats a recent statement, not what was before.

earlier it was "late december, early january".
If 50 dollars is a lot of money to you, you need to not be buying games, and save some money so that you can be in the situation where spending 50, 100, 1000, dollars is not a big deal

you have a gross misunderstanding of money then.
either that or your overtly pampered. 50$ is up to 20 hours of work for some people, talk about the true value of money.
Constant bickering about when it will be out and why its not out, will only tick off the people making it, I know it would tick me off it I was them.

you think they haven't learned to ignore this post by now?
hah... like they would bother coming in here.
I don't get this, "Why release something that isn't ready." It's a beta, it's going to be far from ready anyway.

finally hidden rabbit, someone who understands.
You should be thanking them that they are even making this game.

I would thank it if it didn't cost me 50$ 6 months in advance. that forces me to drop to the level of "being thankful, but very whiny"
The customer is dependent 100% on the product owner (Ironclad/Stardock) for this game

wra-ong
wrong
and wrong!
the developers are wholly dependant on the customers, either that or they live on the street. thats why the customers always right, because there are plenty of other buisnesses waiting for my buck.

perfect example!
for us. they should allow us to snap up the beta, rip it appart, and then fix the bugs.
in the end catching bugs is all about sandboxing, and getting more people to sit in the sand will find you more of the bugs.

In regards to some of your above comments.....

You keep complaining you gave them $50 dollars 6 months ago, if it was such an issue , you should have ask for them to cancel the pre-order as soon as you knew it would be delayed, and once the beta is released you could have just pre-order it again and still get into the beta.

Also I am not overly pampered , at least not by anyone other than myself, I chose to educated my self enough to get a good job so I could afford the things I like.

and you live in a world fortunate enough that you don't get payed pennies. so obviously while you know how to get money, you don't know its value.

its not the money, its the morality of them snapping up 50$ without being punctual with my product.
