Girls that play RTS?

Girls that play RTS?

I've dated a few gamer girls and I hang out with a few and chat with a few online. What really puzzels me is that none of them play RTS games, does anyone else see this as strange? I am guessing the whole sci-fi war thing is what turns them off...

Chikens have had at least one (maybe two) girl HW players and several Mechwarrior players although one was BSing supposedly. I would guess Blizzard has probably attracted more women to its RTSes with their narrative elements than most.

Maybe I'm gay (this might be a bigger suprise to me than it would be to some of my more sarcastic opponents), but I do not think that girls are that much different. They do not play RTS's because we do not make them like we should.

I wish most girls would acutally sit down with their man or whom ever they are with and at least try a game or two. Who knows they might find it likable!

Wait a minute...girls play video games? When did this happen?! *gets out from under rock*

I don't understand the aversion to games that most girls have. Unfortunately, I've never met a girl I find attractive and within driving distance who was into games or other not-so-typical-for-a-girl stuff. I've especially never met an RTS-playing girl. The one gamer-girl that I met via online channels a few years ago joined me cooperatively on some FPS games and it was a ton of fun.

RTS games are impersonal. Make one with a figurehead that they can become emotionally attached to and they'll come around. Quite a few guys got their wives and girlfriends to play the Warlords:battlecry games, same vein as warcraft or the myriad of even more boring clones, but with persistent heroes that you can build up one battle to the next. They went from basic infantry strength all the way up to army destroying titans, the attack spell geared ones could solo the max unit limits at full strength at the level cap. Women aren't adverse to war, the bloodiest civilizations in history were matriarchs, they're just adverse to abstraction.

Alot of girls (who hang out with more guys than girls) have played some game before and enjoy playing it. Most common would have to be guitar hero.

I used to play starcraft with a lot of girls (as far as i know)
maybe they were men in disguise :SURPRISED:

HOW DID YOU GET OUT OF MY BELLY MONGOOSE!?

*eets you again*

anyways, i think weemon just have more pressure to do things besides gaming (just as we have more pressure to game as a release than... other things...) and so only the ones with a very large 'need' to play them acutally do (such as carielf who is perhaps the greatest person to ever live!)

Girls suck at online games!! That's why I beat them nearly half the time! ;)

For those who think there isn't a large and quite capable crowd of female gamers, check out some of their sites- for instance, the girls entertainment network (www.girlsentertainmentnetwork.com) is open to both sexes, has daily articles on all things gaming and geek from women just as passionate as any man.

The stereotype is broken, and it's becoming far less "odd" in any way to encounter women involved in gaming or other geek passions. Soon enough, it won't be a consideration whatsoever, and that will be a great day.

Girls cant find the directions to the enemy base - they suck at rts!
End of quote

You're wrong...they have an advantage because they WILL ask for directions.

There's a girl in my history class who played Age of Empires, but apart from that I must agree. Aside from one Diablo 2 nut and someone with passing interest in half-life 2, the female gaming scene in my town is pretty much nonexistant.

If a girl can personally and emotionally connect with a character or whatever in a game, they'll be more inclined to play it. Or, if it involves cute creatures. Or sometimes NOT cute creatures. For instance, I hear at times that Tyranids are the favorite race of most female 40k boardgame players. Or Zergs for Starcraft players.

Super bomberman, fantastic game. Would get dragged away from whatever it is i mightve been doing to play against the girls on that for hours at a time.

RTS's are usually more time consuming and not as crazy off the wall fun as some games might be.

I might like getting the most research as possible out of my quality 20 odd research planet with several bonus tiles to research and then chucking on a technological capital to seal the deal but its not earth shatteringly fun.

In the same way i wouldn't go out of my way to beg my parents to paint my room pink when i was younger.

I've gotta agree with the general consensus here.

I've played a lot of games, and only seen a few girls online. Not one girl in CoD4, 2 in SupCom, and 1 in Star Wars Republic Commando.

None are actually really good, and i still pwnzor. But it is fun playing with them. ;p

I don't see why it really matters one way or the other, really.

I mean, if you were playing a more social game and you got along with girls better, perhaps. But otherwise..who cares?

The head of GEN's site was a pretty good Kohan player. (Aktrez)

my girlfriend liked it when I introduced her to starcraft, totalwar series.. but she prefered sins because of the more in depth display of the UI (she's not good at rts because she has no skill with a keyboard and mouse, she's used to playstation controls :P)

but when we play heroes 3 or 5... I get my ass kicked no contest lol, she rules at tbs

I can only hope you're right. I've never found it in RTS games, but for FPSs, the attitude of some guys towards myself and my female friends can be quite.. disturbing at times. I'm glad that doesn't happen too often though.

There are quite afew girls/women online though. It just depends on the game. And I know I tend to keep quiet in case of any idiots playing (who have a vendetta against me because I'm female  :( ), so people assume I'm a guy.

Never tried dating a gamer girl though..
