I just had two minor races build Aphrodesiacs. This is with patch 34a. Wasn't this bug squashed already?

I didn't exactly read thru all the posts here so this bug may have already been reported by someone else but here goes:

I created a Terror Star and placed several Ranger class ships on top of it while I was moving it around the galaxy. I placed the Terror Star and the Ranger ships into a 'fleet' to move them all easier. I then saved the game after moving the Terror Star about 20 spaces.

Then I came back and reloaded and low and behold, the whole fleet including the Terror Star now had the movement of the Ranger ships (about 9 squares). A very very handy way to move that Terror Star to where it's needed quickly but not something I think that is by design :)

There is a strange formula the game uses to determine cultural victory conditions, and I imagine that has something to do with the problem the people reporting not being able to get a cultural victory are experiencing.

It seems that cultural victory conditions are dynamic. An easy way to see this is to check how many months away you are from a cultural victory (you have already got the message telling you, etc.). Save the game. Load the game. The number of months to victory is now greater than it was when you saved it.

I CAN NOT MOVE MY SHIPS.

I put a starbase in a sector so I can attack a solar system. I then move my battleships next to the solarsystem and attack.I then try moving my battleships out the way for my troop transports and the statement, must have planet or starbase in sector is displayed. If I try firing on solarsystem again when it makes new ships it says the samething.

P.S. Battleships are stacked, troop transports are in back of battleships not stacked,if enemy breaks orbit thay can attack my battleships but not my troop transports.

Intrmittently at the end of the turn, the "Turn" button turns to a clock, and stays that way for long periods of time (10-20 minutes). The computer doesn't sound like it's processing. I have still been able to open planet screens, domestic or foreign policy screens, and the research screen, and make choices in them, but I can't move any ships. Sometimes clicking on a ship or entering and exiting one of the above screens will jolt it out of inactivity, but often the only way is to quit and restore. Even restoring often leads to the same problem.

AdamTG - This happens to me if I hit the turn button when I'm (not so obviously) being promted to colonize. If I save/quit/reload everything is then fine...but it's still very annoying.

GAME CRASH.

In my current game I crash to desktop if I try to view my stats under domestics. I'm fairly far along in a medium game. I have music disabled. Most annoying.

Bah...I wish one could edit at this forum!!!

Anyways....for my #361 post...I'm running the latest build of the game as of this posting.

AdamTG and Vogar: I have had that happen to me a few times. I was able to make the turn progress normally by going to the main galaxy view and pressing the keyboard quick key to end turn (enter key I think?)

Found a bug with the quickbuilding social structures and the detail view of the planet with certain improvments. If you quickbuild the soil enhancement or the habitation improvement and change your production before allowing the month to roll over, you get the effect of the enhancement (ie, planet quality improves), but when you go into the detail view of the planet it does not list the structures as having been built. I haven't tried it with any other structures yet so I don't know if it happens with things other than planet improvements or not.

I've been experiencing strange graphics and behavior at the end of a game. It usually goes something like this:

I get my butt kicked and am eliminated except maybe for some ships still floating around. The game continues. I disband all remaining ships and get the end of game cut scene. I then get to the Save Game menu. I select Continue Game so that I can submit my score. I get a brief view of the end of game summary and then an intermittent game grid with the game continuing. I have to move the mouse around and find where the Done button would be to get to the Submit Score screen. It's whacky.

1) Tech Speed bonuses aren't really +10%, etc. Impulse drive seems to give a +1 Speed to all ships, assuming later bonuses do the same. Text should be corrected.
2) Ship statistics in the Military Projects screen don't reflect speed (or other?) bonuses.

Regarding my previous bug post:

The problem wasn't just that I could remove my entire population, but also that sending a colony ship into a completely colonized system locked the game.

I notice when you talk to the minor races it shows no ships when dealing with them. Yet they have massive armadas guarding planets and roaming around. With the major races it shows the ships available for trade.

Another weird one:

I'm currently playing with the latest available build, for reference.

I had a period of "starbase building" in which I maxed out about eight or so starbases. Anyway, I set all the planets building constructors to building nothing via the governor. That worked fine. The problem was later, when I developed several new modules, that I needed more constructors and set all the planets building "nothing" to build constructors again.

Unfortunately, the governor didn't change anything. The planets building nothing continued to build nothing.

I tested this a few times with the planet tab open, so I could see about six or so planets continue to build nothing when I gave the governor the order to change.

For reference, if it makes any difference, it was Mr. Ford.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet ( how many times have you read that! ;) ) but has anyone else had a gal resourse disappear on them?

There was a cluster of them, like 3 in one sector, built starbases on all of them. Come back a little while later and one of them was gone, I had two starbases with resources and a stupid starbase doing nothing sitting there. Unfortunately I dont have a saved gave with the resources there and with one missing.

Oh and another thing, this SmartException hasnt made a single bug report thing yet, whats the deal with that, does it only work on win98 systems or soemthing?

Crash Report

I am running Calactic Civilizations 1.01 on a Pentium IV under Windows XP. The game has started crashing consistantly after combat or some other event where processing is involved. When I reload the last autosave, I get the red screen and garbage graphics described above. Is there a fix for this problem?
Thank you.

I've seen the resolution to end war but major races still in war with minor races bug, if that helps. It was an AI race, not me.

I have had the same problem under Windows XP. The trick is to go to the game labeled "Previous Autosave". The last autosave is usually corrupt due to the crash.

Carielf;

Re: your request I email my crash exception. I didn't have se running when the system crashed. I reloaded the second-to-last savegame (last savegame was very corrupt) and was able to finish the game without a problem. Which suggests something: a memory leak. When I crashed I had been playing for hours. It seems that if I save and quit during games, no problems. Its not my system specs causing a problem: Athlon 1.8, Gforce 3, 512g memory. If I get another crash, I'll send it to you.

Fantastic game :) After 4 games, here's my notes (just slap me if they are obvious or I am repeating):

- Often times when I or a minor race builds a "one-of-a-kind" wonder, another major race will build it as well several turns later. Not as unique as advertised (though it never lets -me- build redundant wonders); quite annoying to think I went through the effort just have someone else get the benefits as well - not like the AI needs any more cheats.

- As reported many times I'm sure, the economic numbers vary for no reason and are very inconsistent. For example, I goto my report screen and see that I have a net loss of 70, so I flip over to another tab to view the details and when I come back I now have a net loss of 100ish. I changed no sliders; no turns happened; and it wasn't a refresh issue unless it failed to refresh when I first brought up the screen. This constantly confuses me 'cause sometimes it makes a huge jump for no apparent reason - I had it jump from -49 to -109 in one turn and the only thing that happened on that turn was I built one structure with a 1 or 2 maintenance cost. My last game in the late turns my maintenance costs jumped from 400ish to 800ish for no obvious reasons.

- Along those financial lines, please explain the "starting cost" of a planet. It seems varied and random - sometimes I will have a starting planet cost 4 and other times I will have a colony of a few hundred with no structures already cost me 13bcr. I have yet to figure this one out.

- Minor tweaks I'd love to see: Speed increases should more accurately say +1 vs 10% (since 10% of 0 is 0, not 1). The Tech history list should be sorted alphabetically. Does it bug anyone else that a galatic borg-like civilization's theme song is quaint elevator music?

Ok, back to playing - thank you for the exceptionally well-designed game.
