Sins of a Solar Empire Beta Plans Unveiled

Stardock Entertainment and Ironclad Games today unveiled beta-test plans for Sins of a Solar Empire, the companies' innovative "RT4X" strategy game. The companies announced that individuals who pre-order the game at https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store for $44.95 or 5 TotalGaming.net tokens will gain access to the beta on March 27, well in advance of the game’s release. The limited-feature beta will initially be single-player only, and will feature a single playable race; its purpose is to help Stardock and Ironclad test the game engine on a wide range of PCs, ensuring maximum compatibility and peak performance of the final product. In the coming months, additional features and updates will be implemented based on players' feedback, in order to ensure the final game meets and exceeds fans' expectations.

Sins of a Solar Empire represents the birth of the RT4X genre, seamlessly blending spectacular tactical combat with grand-scale space strategy. Players must conquer worlds, engage in diplomacy and trade with other civilizations, and use the resources at their disposal to enhance their economy, develop new technology and increase military power. They must then test their mettle on a 3D tactical battlefield, where their ships will fight it out in stunning visual glory.

"We’re thrilled to finally give loyal Stardock and Ironclad fans the opportunity to experience Sins of a Solar Empire themselves" said Brian Clair, Director of Games Publishing for Stardock Entertainment. "Their input and gameplay feedback will ultimately help us deliver an incredibly fun, balanced and stable game later this year."

"When players go to bed after playing Sins we want invading alien armadas, desperate planetary defensives and collapsing intergalactic empires to haunt their dreams. Giving players a chance to help shape Sins as early as possible is critical to this objective and we couldn’t be more excited to get the mission started," said Blair Fraser, Producer at Ironclad Games. Craig Fraser, Creative Director, continued, "The team is finally ready to share a tiny taste of the Sins universe with the world this month. The community’s feedback has always been so important to us in the past and we are really counting on our beta fans to help us make Sins the strategy game they will want to play for years."

Yah, much smaller than anticipated. Though it has one race no campaign no multiplayer, so that has to cut it down a bit, we will get to experience the dynamic music?

The beta is so small because there is a lot of material not included. We restricted the number of features, textures, meshes, music, soundFX, races and so-on. Its just the basics and just the TEC. The full version is much larger and will continue to grow up until release.

will we be able to save and watch replays? amd share them with other beta testers?

Seems like a very handy tool for documenting any issues that we discover. Would be pretty silly to not have it.

Just wondering, does this mean some ships or facilites will be just white stuff or something? And are we not gonna hear the dynamic music.. Or more importantly, the intuitive sound-messages?

And to mention races... I suppose you mean something else than the two other playable races?

On the otherhand.... 370 megs, lovely <3

Ahh, knew if I didn't log in here for a while I'd see something worth reading finally.

Too bad I have Laplace's Equations in circular geometries to solve for the 3rd of April.

quickly can we have a rundown of things that we do not yet know will not be included in the game but have been promised to us so that we will not be dissapointed by the release?

of course you would have to pair it with an equal or similarly lengthy list of things that you will include that are awesome and nobody has thought of before

There's no manual.  The beta does have a couple of tutorial missions, however.

People like myself require no such manuals or tutorials, I should be able to have a complete understanding of this game within minutes of starting. Glad to hear the beta is upon us soon. I pre-ordered so long ago...

Lets get back on topic... This thread has strayed a little off point.

On the 27th what time will the beta be out? 12noon PST?

Once again, this proves that you arent Schem.

Once Schem derails a thread he doesnt rerail it.

But I agree, back to topic.

Haha good man! I will admit I am enjoying myself with this delusion of being someone lesser than my true self Or rather being myself if you believe I am Schem, which I might still be...

The time doesn't really matter to me much. The 27th marks the end of my spring break. I'll be in class all that day and at work all that night. Then I'll probably spend the next day sleeping - having been up for the previous 28 hours.

SLEEP! you need no sleep, play the beta, it will call to you...

Well, I don't want to fall asleep while playing it... like I did with the Empire at War demo... That was shortly before I uninstalled it and never looked back.

There is some placeholder stuff in all areas (graphics, sound and so-on) as the game isn't done yet but we've tried to minimize the white blobs Lots of TEC music is included though and yes, you will be able to watch replays.

I'm guessing generally what we will see in the beta is the final product (graphic-wise)? I hope this isn't so.

The three are in fact entirely different people.

Brian Clair is Yarlen.
Brad Wardell is Frogboy.
Blair Fraser is Blair Fraser (oddly enough!).
