Fighters and bombers

Well, didn't see a thread on this, but a lot of comments in other threads.

Here's what i think about the fighters and bombers
1 - The carrier need fewer guns and more slots. While it's nice at high level (6) the two fighters it can hold are rather sad.

2 - Fighters don't seem to prioritise bombers, or are very bad at it

3 - bombers are FAR to strong. They're very difficult to destroy without flak bursts (inta kill)

4 - when ordered to dock, the display reads "docked" even though they're quite obviously still out in space. It might be usefull to add a "Docking"readout.

5 - they always get stranded when jumping, and sometimes decide to proceed to the target system by themselves, taking forever.

The newest patch keeps them from getting stranded when docking.

I also agree that the bombers are overpowered.

And I still keep saying that there should be 10 ships per squad

nope after awhile they just explode as they are left for dead.... but it was fixed, they are supposed to ALWAYS dock now before the capital ship leaves....

well this brings up my next question: can anything travel through empty space w/out ftl drives?

I *have* seen orphaned bomber groups spin off into space and get halfway across the system before they died...

i would like to see an option for a constructor ship to be sent into 'the void' to maybe build a forward phase interrupter / defense outpost thus making an argument for control of constructor ships manual.

at the very least something to slow enemy phase space speeds would be cool...
although balance may be an issue.

Do not be concerned with the number of fighters/bombers per squadron. It's easy to mod so I assume they made it a low number for beta only.

yep super easy to mod, just make sure to reduce their firepower, else a squad of 30 bombers can take out a capital ship in 2 strikes!

Sometimes, I want to leave my fighters behind.


I once had to use them to cover my one retreating carrier. They bought me enough time to get to the edge of the system, but then I had to wait for them to dock as a whole fleet approached me.

Maybe an auto dock option can be added? Else they just remain...

Ships wont wait for fighters. Fighters are automatically issued dock orders when capital ships receive phase orders.

You can build Flak Frigates right off the bat with no research. Just assign them to a different group than your fleet (so they don't get your focus attack orders) and set them to follow/protect one of your main cap ships. They eradicate fighters and bombers alike very quickly.

If you mean your bombers are too strong, once the AI is smart enough to use Flak Frigates well, you might not think so, they are very fragile.

I think the bombers are just right atm, your supposed to be afraid of bombers because they hurt like crazy, thats why you build to defend agaist them and why they are pretty easily defended against. If your enemy doesn't, well, thats a game win for you.
