Galaxy creation and starting positions

I don't know if this had been mentioned before, and maybe I'm just extraordinarily unlucky, but why does the game insist on placing as many opponents as possible into the same solar system as my own starting planet?
I was trying to start a game with 3 suns and 3 opponents in hopes of having 1 enemy to overcome while expanding, and then have 2 well developed empires to take on at the other 2 stars, but no matter how much I tried, they always ended up right next to me. Meanwhile the rest of the galaxy was empty. It might as well not have been there in the first place.

The first beta was set up to create conflict right away, it was said eventually we can pick starting locations (beta 2?) for all races before starting the game!

I was getting that most of the time as well. Til last night I jsut started creating and restarting til I found on I liked. I was able to take over 6 systems without running into anyone. Finally ran into someone on the 7th and 8th.

This was in a game with 4 systems 100 planets.

I have played a game with 80 planets and 4 systems. I was able to take around 12 planets before even SEEING an enemy ship, much less a planet, finally as i almost dominated my star system, i found an enemy planet string, crushed it and then went on my merry way to the other 3 systems, where i had to fight tooth and nail to hold even one planet in each.
