Star Wars Mod

Star Wars Mod

I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_navy This a good site for finding ships to use for the Imperial Navy. PLEASE no death stars, unless you can make the ship actually blow up a planet.

There is something I notced while poking around the game info folder; there arefrigates that are not ingame, but in the gameinfo folder:

Tartan
Broadside
BB
BB2

Can I put these ingame or are they lacking something?

Could some one update the the first post with the latest file?

Im having problem in finding the file.

If anyone can make a bes'uliik(y'know... the batle machines the mando'a rode in the sith war), that would be a great help. what could be more fun than building up a fleet of 400 or so and just demolishing a planet. oya!

Hey evil,

Question 1: have you thought about calling the unaligned forces Black Sun? (if they represent the underworld)...

Or it'd be great if you could make a pirate faction called Black Sun with StarViper ships and other infamous underworld vessels. That's one thing I hated about Empire at War was that Zann's faction should have just been the Black Sun. Xizor was really the head of the Underworld, and if not him, the Hutts. Maybe they were trying to be original.

Which leads me to...

Question 2: could you incorporate "leaders" into the mod? May sound strange, but just hear me out...

For example, factions can build certain ships (obviously we can't have a physical person in the mod) that are already high in rank flagships, like:

Alliance: Millenium Falcon (Han Solo), Rogue Squadron (Luke Skywalker), etc.
Empire: Death Star (Grand Moff Tarkin), Eclipse (Palpatine), TIE Advanced (Vader)
Black Sun (unaligned forces or Pirates): Virago (Xizor), Slave I (Boba Fett))
Sith-Mandalorian: ?
Republic: ?
Vong: ?

Don't tell me to go play EaW or whatever, haha, I just think that this might add a different element to the gameplay. Man, I wish the vanilla races had leaders even... hmmm...

P.S. Sweet Mod.

black sun is a very insignificant naval force by the galactic standard (and the zann consortium represents the upper end of what they could afford) besides the only worthwhile star viper was Xixors personal model. All of the other star vipers were purposely crippled because of his personal involvment.

leaders are up to code changes by the developers because of the limited ship count already (personally I'd rather have characters that could be put in command on ships that would give bonuses to the fleet and vessel)

Wedge Antilles and ultra-powerful strikecraft! A squad of X-wings can down 4 squads of TIE's, and then eat their supporting Carrack for dessert.
Yeah I'm confused about that... in RTS games X-wings can't do jack to anything bigger but in the books and Rouge Squadron games they can take down big ships easy...
Canon X-wings are supposedly fighter superiority, but have a torpedo launcher and laser cannons that are huge compared to the other fighters. In EAW, the whole torpedo thing is skipped entirely, they just have laser cannons. I'd swear Lucas makes stuff up as he goes and allows whatever changes are convenient at the time.

don't forget that wedge and the associated books are hero characters, what you forget is the hundreds and thousands that die with less than a single word mention (occasionally thrown in to make something dramatic)

hero characters of course will be able to do silly things, but when every mission rogue squadron goes on is considered suicide I think it's because of plot shield that any of them succeed (remember in the movies fighters get evaporated with a single well placed hit and very few if any pilots survive)

Why is the StarDestroyer called 'Imperator' class?...
It was origionaly dubbed 'Imperator' class, and there is good reason to beleive that the first ship of the class was named 'Imperator'.
HOWEVER: THE ENTIRE CLASS WAS OFFICIALY RENAMED 'IMPERIAL' CLASS BY EMPEROR PALPATINE AFTER THE GALACTIC PURGE.
Modders of SOGE please change this...

Wookiepedia quote:
"The Imperator was an Imperial-class Star Destroyer in the Imperial Navy. The Imperial-class design was originally named Imperator-class, a designation which might indicate that the first ship of this class bore the name Imperator: if so, then this ship would have entered service in around 19 BBY. However, it is also possible that the first Imperator-class ship was actually the Executrix."

Yeah Derek I've said that before on the Relic Forums wwwwaaaayyyy back when for Warlords. Eville had a response for it but its been quite some time since I first brought it to light and I don't remember what he said on the issue.

Honestly I can't find one source anywhere (Books, Games, Movies) where it calls it the Imperator Class, everywhere its the Imperial Class.

The Venator is cooler anyway.... heh.

I know this has been addressed somewhere else with Warlords... but

There will always been two sides to this issue. There are many people who prefer the usage of Imperator, as established through naval tradition and the Star Wars Technical Commentaries (SWTC).
http://www.theforce.net/swtc/index.html
You are correct that Lucas's direct canon sources have never used that term.

The reference to Imperator was introduced in 2005's Revenge of the Sith: Incredible Cross-Sections, written by Curtis Saxton himself who wrote SWTC.

That being said, I figure Eville has a preference for Imperator as written on the FAQ
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/wp/?page_id=2
(which was probably written before the the Cross-Sections book was published)

Did noone read my post: the class was OFFICIALY RENAMED imperial-I after the galactic purge

QUOTE FROM THE STARWARS WIKI: "Following the Great Jedi Purge and the establishment of the Galactic Empire, the model was renamed Imperial-class.[6]"

If your continuing to be stubborn...read this interesting peice of SW History...
The first ship of the first class was named Imperator. The second the Exactor (Darth Vaders first command ship).
If your going to go by historic tradition (class is named after first ship), and ignore Palpatines change then fine. Call it the Imperator-I Class...
HOWEVER the first ship of the second class was named IMPERIAL. If we go by historic tradition then wed have two classes:

Imperator class star destroyer
Imperial class star destroyer

The Imperator-II class does not, and never did exist in the Imperial Navy at any time.

I'm sure people did read your post, Derek. But, frankly, so what? This thread is about a mod, not the history of a class of Star Wars ship...

And wikis are never a great source to use for an arguement... I could go in and change what the wiki says right now, if I had the inclination...

Well, he's right. There is no Imperator class, as far as I know. Everywhere it is the Imperial class of Star Destroyers. And by everywhere I mean every Star Wars Expanded Universe novel I have ever read, which is about 90% of all of them, so I have a crap load of space in my brain taken up by this stuff that could be used for something useful like anything else besides science fiction minutiae. Trust me. It's the Imperial class.
