My opinion so far - some ideas

Ive now played for a few days and in my opinion these are the issues .

1) weird how fleets come into your home planet blast most of your ships then leave then continue to send trade ships in only to be blasted by my remaining capital ship as they enter system to go to trade port( i would have thought once there fleet attacks trade would cease until peace is renegotiated).

2)space feel - darker star ridden sky in new update is a tremendous step in right direction .

3)saved game overwrite doesnt always work sometimes- sometimes doesnt give that option.

4)the race diplomacy seems to be a non event - alliance etc seem to be of no consequence - A1 players break treaties to attack to claim bounty then imediately after ask for a new agreement.

Even in Beta mode this game is great fun - with a bit more of a space feel will be a tremendous game .

Any chance of random events as per GALCIV2 ie - say an asteroid or comet could potential be going to impact on your planet reducing your income etc and allowing for your ships to take it out with the correct technology . or a plague or something . just something to give the game a slightly random demension? I feel this would add a new demension if put in as an option could even potentially if done right throw players back to near game start standard if event bad enough- thereby creating a randomness that would potentially allow less than experienced players to beat experienced players in a multiplayer scenario or create more randomness in a single player game.It could be exciting to overcome a great setback and rebuild your forces while the other forces try to take advantage of your misfortune and still win the game .

The AI still needs a few tweaks and they are working on it. But i agree the traders should leave there territory, when there can be no more peace

Also working on that, but the last patch .010 did a few things, like stars when you zoom out.

i agree, it needs more options, and penaltys for when you quit the an alliance.

i dont remember who said it, (think it was craig), that said, in later beta, we will see more and more stuff happen as the game progresses.
But i like the idea about random events. Maybe the pirats will have a say in this

1. I feel the game needs space dust or debris or asteroids moving by, something giving a sense of speed and that there is stuff floating around in space.

2. Voices for ships needs to be far more varied. Also, garbled space chatter, freighters and trader ship chatter, radio static voices from the fighter pilots?

3. Diplomacy is like Age of Empires. I have no idea what I'm doing or how to make people like me. Galciv 2 has great AI because it really seems like what you do matters to them. You make first contact with a race, maybe a battle occurs, maybe you just say hello. Relations are established and gradually solidify, either life long enemies or a Federation of Planets like experience. It drives me nuts how sometimes the AI is really smart and says meaningful things and then other times...not so much.

When I asked for an alliance with another race and they said no because I had bombed one of their planets I was amazed, thinking that it really was because I had bombed their planet. Then I realized it was just an automated response after I kept getting the message repeatedly.

At other times the AI comes off pretty intelligent. Telling me to attack a location co-ordinated with them, coming to my defense when I'm being overwhelmed, asking me to build my trade ports when I'm really low on trade ports. I just wish the AI had more substance to it.

it will have that, depries from destroyed stuff. That you will be able to haul in for resources.

depending on the race that is..... not all races will be able to bring in resources by salvage...

Well we do know, that the vasari can mine planets from orbit.
But about the salvage, hmm, that i cant remember. Thought it was for all races

You take me too literally. I know the game will have debris from ships to be used as resources.

I mean the game literally is missing particles of space dust, an element found in most space flight sims, but very rarely seen in space strategy games.I mean like little white specs of grainy dust floating around in space, and when the camera is locked on the ships the dust blurs by giving a sense of motion. It doesn't necessarily need to be implemented. I just feel the game sort of lacks "space phenomena". Black holes, damaging massive asteroid fields, gas giants, etc etc. The things that make space....space!

That stuff wasn't included in Beta 1 any may not be included in future betas, but is planned for release.

I was playing a game with locked teams, and I saw my ally preparing to attack an ice planet held by an enemy. I chose to bring my smaller fleet with his. When we got there, the enemy also had fleet that was about the size of my ally's. My ally then retreated, leaving me hopelessly outnumbered, except that the enemy also retreated, allowing me to take the planet.

I agree, ties in with response to diplomacy below

Yes, the new background space is much better.

3)saved game overwrite doesnt always work sometimes- sometimes doesnt give that option.

Happened to me once. What I would like to see is either auto-completion of known saved game names or at least having it remember what the name of the last saved game is. I hate having to re-type it each time.

Heck, I ignore all the factions now (8 hours into a game) and it doesn't seem to matter much. I'm still waiting for my demise as the factions keep telling me I'm about to fall and/or will regret not taking them up on their diplomatic/trade/intelligence alliance offerings!!! LOL!

Same here, AI factions seem to be rather stupid, I accepted an alliance with a faction in another system, which had only 1 planet left. After sending it's 'fleet' to certain doom, trying to save "Dead Asteroid" world, IT CANCELLED IT'S ALLIANCE with me. Of course, I had to crush them...

It would be nice if cancelling had reprecussions, and that aliances last only XX minutes. ie. "We ally for 23 minutes, and whoever breaks it before 23 minutes pass, automatically pays 3000 metal & crystal"

An alternative to an immediate cost for breaking an alliance would be to have "reputation." If go and backstab all of your allies, everyone else will know, and won't want to ally with you.
