'Objects' here referring, note, to everything you can count--capital ships, frigates, squads, civilian ships, planets, asteroids, and modules.

Someone on here had the game run with 10,000 planets and stuff... I think he hold the record, but I don't believe you could actually play, lol.

oh but that was modded, my game aint

A fitting test for this would be one AI, which you defeat and bottle up on one planet as quick as possible--load it up with frigates so that they can't do anything, but leave the planet alive, and build a lot of orbital mining platforms--I think it's the best bang for the buck, object-wise. Save often, build until the game crashes, note when.

I think I'll start tomorrow.

I have a $15K HPC system. I'm willing to give it try if anyone has the files already setup. I been wanting to try to push this beast anyway.

well you can try this savegame of mine, but im sure it will crash.

Downloading now.

UPDATE: It ran for about 2 minutes then froze. That is harsh because you had some major mojo going-on in that game - too bad.

hehe yeah, the armada cant get too big

You are the 4th person to test it. Im just glad its not just me

I test a combat with about 120 ships(30 of each frigate), it instantly crashed once 2 second has gone after fleet went into combat.

Well there will obviously be a fix for this... and by fix I mean ship cap lol

Blair said there will be no cap, but it will get harder to get more, the longer you play.
Its true, that in my 4system, 50 planet game, it took me about 8hours (gametime) to get that many.

Im also against any kind of ship cap, it just ruins the idea of building a huge armada. But to reduce it, i like what Blair have said

I think that caps suck. Hell I spent a fortune on my HPC rig just to be able to do crazy stuff like have 50k reactive objects on the screen at one time shooting at each other and to be able to zoom around like ghost while it is all going down in real-time. Dont try to rain on my parade because its all good.

Tried it as well, on a 2gb, 2*1.6Ghz machine, It LIVES...

for a while. Started to clot up immediatly, then froze (Responsiveness of about 20 seconds)

2*1.6Ghz machine

a dual core?

it seems random for when the game crashes.
You say immediatly, i can play it for about 5min. Others 1-3min.
Weird crash indeed

Do you have some easy way to count all the objects?

I have a couple of saved games that will CTD everytime, but I don't think I want to spend the time to actually count all the objects in the game. When the game crashes I am in the middle of a battle, but I only have about 30 ships on the screen along with whatever is built in that planet's gravwell which is not all that much.

Well i didnt count it myself, i got Legerdemain to do it for me LOL

objects = (Number of planets * rough guess of average number of objects around planets) + Your number of ships + rough guess of number of enemy ships.

Load the game, open the menu, hit 'end game'. Mouse over the end of the following graphs: planets, asteroids, capital ships, frigates, squads, civilian ships, planet modules. Note numbers for each player. Add.

Game lasted for a little bit on my work laptop (Core Duo 2.0Ghz w/ 2gig ram, X1600Mobile card @ 1280x1024. I'll try this on my home computer tonight.

Update, home PC E6400 @ 3.0Ghz w/ 4gig ram, X1900XT @ 1920x1200, 64-bit Vista Ultimate. Crashed in 41 seconds, but was getting 30FPS during the time

I have a saved game that has 5684 objects in total. It will CTD though if any activity is started.

This game was running fine until I phase jumped a fleet to another star system. I did not create any more ships or other objects. As long as my fleet sits at that star the game is fine, but if I try to attack any planet at that star system it will CTD.

I have emailed the exception log to them.
