Quick First Impression

Well I played for a little over an hour yesterday and I am impressed. I set my settings to 1440x900(Whatever the widescreen is) and put everything on high. I then went to the tutorials first to learn. At the end of the first tutorial my screen seem to freeze, I heard a windows error beep and then the title screen music started playing but the screen was still stuck at the end of the tutorial. My Hard drive was acting like it was going through something serious so I let it sit a minute and then alt+tabed out to find a message about an error and to send it to the programmers. I sent it so hope you guys got it. After I got back into the game I went to the second tutorial and had no problems.

I then loaded up my first game. Tutorial prepared me so I was able to jump right in. I played for about a half hour since that was all the time I had and I was about to get pwned by the ai. I know that is sad but now I know what I am doing. I had no crashes during the session. Congrats to you guys on this beta 1 which is a whole lot better then galciv2 beta 1 which crashed on me about every 15 minutes. I will be playing a lot more later today so I will hopefully be able to give some more feedback.

BTW I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but the mouse movement was driving me crazy. I think I played to much supreme commander because I kept expecting it to scroll in where my mouse pointer was. Maybe I missed a setting.

There is an option to turn the zoom to pointer on or off, so it will zoom to your cursor.

Thanks I will do that. I knew it had to be a setting. I was about ready to break something cause I could not scroll in where I wanted too....well maybe that is a little exaggeration.

I also wanted to comment about the graphics. If this is as good as they get I would be happy that is how good I think they are right now. Anyway I know this is just beta 1 so I am excited about what is to come. Oh and I am hoping some of the guns and turrets move and recoil. Especially the defense turrets with the two big guns would be cool if they recoiled as they fired and stuff. Probably already in game just not in the beta.

That's weird, I believed that "Zoom on cursor" mode was default.

I did not change any settings besides the resolution. If "Zoom on cursor" is not default when the game is first installed I strongly believe it should be. Especially if guys like me who played supcom etc. come along they could get really frustrated real fast without knowing you can change this setting.

Zoom to cursor wasn't the default on my copy either, but I strongly agree that it should be.

Well I figured this out finally. I poured over the settings for like 10 minutes trying to find out where to change this. I got frustrated so I start a new game up. I look up and what do I see....A big freaking button you click that toggles scroll to mouse on and off. Can't believe how stupid I am sometime.

Honestly, I prefer to focus/zoom as opposed to zoom to cursor, because then I end up looking at exactly what I want to, as opposed to merely in the vicinity, and also because I can do other stuff with the mouse while zooming. >.>

I guess that makes me a minority. (old fogey) Let me tell you, it weren't like this in the old days! (/old fogey)
