Games that should have had their release date's moved back... And why I <3 IC/SD

The longest LordKosc post EVER!

With Sins being pushed back till 2008, I at first was sad inside, asking myself why... It looks so good as it is, a little spit and polish and you have a game that is better than 90% of the games that are released in a given year.

Then I realized just how much better it could be... A resolution to the phase lanes, super capital ships, a Super Pwn SentientSchematicsofNinjas end game button, and other stuff. Now I don't know what else will be added , or if those options are even being considered anymore by the IC staff.

So I sat down and asked myself, what games have I recently played that were just ok, that could have been GREAT games, if they were held back 6-8-10 months...

Three easily come to mind. Command and Conquer 3, Supreme Commander, and Star Trek Legacy.

Cnc3, lacks a decent zoom, sides are not balanced well, walls were taken out, and game overall has a rushed feeling. Sadly I did buy it, and shortly after sold it on Ebay... The EA forums are really crowded with upset people, and the forever echoing cry of "Where are the Walls???" You know there are problems when people start petitions to get additions to the game for things that should have been in the game in the first place...

Star Trek Legacy... Just horrible... It was a Xbox360 port that was almost unplayable. Voice acting was also lackluster. Game controls on the PC were almost impossible to use, and some didn't even work at all. 2 Patches later and the game is still a mess MAD Doc/ Bethsada are no where to be found... Their forums are a dead zone of poor lost souls hoping for someone to mod the game into what it could have been.

Supreme Commander, while not horrible, seems to be lacking the in depth feeling you wish you could have with every great game. I just don't feel connected to my units. And the question arises if the game is just too EPIC in scale... I have only gone 3 missions into single player and lost interested. Multi-player is ok, but it just doesn't seem as much fun as it could be.

What does everyone else think? I bet if these games had come out months later, they would all be better. It would have also helped if the developers actually listened to what the fans wanted. Repeat business depends on keeping the new and old happy. A lot of companies seem to forget that.

Stardock and Ironclad are two rare gems in sea of corral. The push back is more proof, of a relationship of two companies that want to put out something that says: we care, we listened, and we did all we could to make a game that lives up to your expectations!

I do believe this is my longest post ever... Also feel free to list some other games you feel were rushed to the market, and what you think could have changed if the developers had listened and were open to feedback from their respective fan bases.

In another year or so, PCs will be out so that SUPCOM will never lag!

I sincerely doubt that. SupCom, much like TA, can be stretched in many ways not readily available in the default setup. You can go up to 10K units (proven using current hardware) with a theoretical cap of 50K, even in the unmodded engine (after you unlock the prerequisite settings). With 50K units all flying around, any modern commercial hardware will die.

Talk about a complete and utter waste.

I personally would find controlling an army of 50 thousand to be unbearably boring and pointless.

May I mention tha graphics arent everything, its the true value of the game that counts.

Yup, which is why SupCom's wonderful game play has earned it a permanent spot on my HD

Sigh... my point is proven.

Still you have good ideas, so I will overlook the Sup Com fanaticism

I agree, and I never felt connected to my units, not even my super units

hehe i love the fatboy its so devastating on long range, if you it keeps the distance from enemy fire, oh and it got 4 main battleship guns on it

hehe i love the fatboy

Same here -- fatboy is the reason I play UEF instead of Aeon. Well, that and the fact that UEF shields upgrade and (while weaker than Aeon) have a larger radius so are just a little more effective at a layered defense...

I just love watching my super-artillery unit bombard the junk out of anyone stupid enough to approach my defenses...

i loved my statigic bombers, especially on ranked games(1v1).
i would spend the entire game just holding him back then send in 3 or 4 SB and end the game.
simply and clean cut.
scrath another 1 up 4 me.
"like cutting your enemys heart out with a scaple" to quote some TV show i can't remember

Aeon suck, stupid alienophiles. UEF! UEF! UEF!

Fatboy rocks, but not as much as the Atlantis carrier, park that baby off an enemy base (after taking the appropriate anti sonar measures) then lift it out of the water and let the doom begin.

Agreed, I was never one for naming my units (except Timmy the T2 tank, seriously, he was amazing!) but it would be nice the "feel" a loss, especially of a Mavor, which took 4 frickin' hours to build.

RTS:
Maelstrom-the latest from codemasters. The graphics and effects were quite nice. However the game itself isn't very interesting. Units and faction in the game are uninspired and some were direct copy off of other RTS. Still the destructable environment was pretty fun to watch, but a very cliched RTS with little else to offer in Multiplayer

WarFront-This is a game that require a lot of patience. The units move very slowly and the effects could have been better

Faces of War-Yet another WWII RTS. But however, the mechanics were taken from Savage, where you command units like a regular RTS, but u'll have to option to play as one of the units as if you were in a FPS game. The idea is very intereting (Both in FoW and Savage), however both games are buggy and the switch around will gradually become cumbersome.

Genesis Rising-Being a space guy I had high expectations for this game. However, I'm heavily disappointed at the lackluster gameplay, and very VERY limited units. Multiplayer has NO ONE and the game's campaign is just another mass and attack. This is the worst of the 4 I've played recently

MMORTS:
NavyField-A worth while game that features full length ship to ship battles. Has somewhat friendly community and the gameplay is smooth

Shattered Galaxy-While Shattered Galaxy looks like something out of StarCraft, the game can be very addicting. While it's the perfect mesh between RPG and RTS, the gameplay can get repedative at times.

MMORPGs:
Rappelz Epic 4-Pay no attention to the epic 3 noobs complaining about the gameplay. Epic 4 upgraded Rappelz to what a MMORPG should be. Epic 3 was way too easy and had many overpowered classes. While Epic 4 balanced the classes as well as improved many elements of the gameplay

Voyage Century-A very unique MMORPG whose main feature is ship travel (as the name suggests). There's no fantasy elements in this game and the game is heavily based on a real time period. While occationally the graphics might seem very unpolished, there is really not much else that is. I found everything in this game very smooth

It will be a year, or so at least before the majority of people have PC's capable of playing Sup Com lag free. I like supcom, but ill be damned if my old piece of industrial art can play anything higher than a 5k map faster than 2 fps at end game

EDIT: DOH! didnt see "page 2"
