Genesis Rising

Something too compare Sins to???

http://www.genesisrisinggame.com/home.html
I found a cool email from SD today. I will shortly be purchasing GR as a result. I cant wait to see how it handles and compares to Sins. The features I have read about so far really pique my interest because some of them are right from Pax and others are from MoO. I wonder if there is enough room in my heart for two games of this nature???

[two hours later after deep soul searching]

You Bet!!! I have endless love for this kind of title to go around!!!

UPDATE: DOH!!! Not on TGN yet - the horror of it all!!!! I feel like I been teased by some 13 year old girl!!! There ought to be a law against that sort of thing.

This game is not getting any $$$ from me...
I was a beta tester of the game. Damn it was horrible

-Ships are sitting ducks, they dont move, unless you micro them...
-You have to micro every single ships if you wanna use eg missles or other special ablilitys.
-When you upgrade one of your ships, it says the ships is mutating.. would have been nice to see some kind of animation that shows it.
-In the multiplayer beta it would have been nice to see some ppl to test with.. i got a mail where they said thx for the help, to everyone, and that was about 20.
-Controls are so bad, as i said in another thread about this game, its just the worst i ever tryed.

well i like the idea about the game, it sounded so good, but when you first try it, and see how bad the things really are, you will know what i mean.

Did you try the demo?

@EX - thanks for the info.

@Multi-
SD = Stardock as in SD will be selling it on TGN.

I have also done some checking and there are not a lot great things being posted about it. The official forums are almost dead and many posts are grips. However given the content in most of them I'll wager many are little kids so I'm not placing much stock in them. My favorite is one where someone asked about modding it and how to and he was told not to do it because it was cheating to do such things.

Regarding your question, I have not tried the demo yet. I will be giving the game a test drive shortly however. If it is crap I'll forget about and delete it from my HDD and if it is good then I'll officially get it via TGN. Got to support SD as much as possible you know.

Maybe you will have a different experience then i had But im sure you will agree on some of the things i said. But try the demo and let me know

Im still curious/confused/shocked that SD has something to with that game. Oh and since they do, how come its not on Stardock Central?

For other users' benefit, the answers to these are that we're just selling it on TGN (no other involvement) and as noted at the bottom of the mailer, it'll be available this summer.

I just played the tuts and well... I dont feel the magic -yet.

The ship and weapons systems are pretty good but the entire bio-ship thing just does not resonate well with me. I get the feeling of a rather cheap Vorlon/Shadows wannabe look and feel with a slight insect oriented twist as well.

I will however give it a full shakedown before making a final decision.

what about missiles and special abilitys that you need to press the spacekey and mouse click to use? Dont like that at all, maybe theres a short-key that im not aware of.

Yeah it is kind of awkward. I found that if you hit the space key it shows them on the unit list on the side so you can fire them from there. However the camera system is PITA when trying to target things using the space, the movement, selection of ships and targets. It is cumbersome at the moment but again I only have about an hour of play time so the learning curve effect may be fully in play here.

We had a previous thread about this game while it was still in beta, and don't think anyone had anything really good to say about the game. In my opinion, the entire game could be summarized as half-baked, tedious, and shallow (minus some very-abusive tech) with some organic-ship wierdness.

That is about the size of Falknir.

This game sucks, i had it for a week then tossed it out, the story sucks and so does the gameplay, don't buy it.

tried the demo, wasn't impressed, not keen on games that only use one resource for everything, and this uses it for everything, so Im not getting the full game at all

Unfortunately wasted potential is not an achievement. The game's idea was very good and the gameplay seems really cool.

But like Multianna, I was also a beta tester (i went around my other name: LizardPariah). The game was very horrible. However, I'm still thinking of buying it just because I have a space nostalgia. (i quit Homeworld2 and Nexus).

Still Supreme Commander might take my mind away.

I tried the demo. I am NOT getting the full game.

It has a very impressive graphic engine, but thats about all it has. The graphics, and artwork remind me of Doom 3. Game play wise... I had more fun watching paint dry. 2d movement, micro hell (if you want to use abilitys), Ships dont maneuver, the list goes on, and on. Overall its just been there done that game play. Yawn.

iv played this game i thort it was ok but needed a skirmish and it got boaring quite fast

Agree overall with the board here. I did however enjoy the ability to switch weapons pretty much on the fly. Yeah it took time for them to "grow" (very cool BTW but not to the potential it should have had) but you could have ships switch roles with but a few changes in it's gene makeup. It was very intuitive and original in this aspect. Too bat the rest of the game was a gigantic load of crap.

Genesis Rising was fairly impossible and bad. The campaign was yawn-inspiring. The graphics were good, it was creative but it was too limited. Each races has a total of like five ships; three are military (yawn, but no offense it was a good idea).

Agreed. It's frustrating how much potential something like this had and will now probably be forever lost because of one poorly conceived attempt. I say this in the hopes that someone out there will read this and incorperate at least parts of this idea in their game.

the way the game played sucked, while the game was a visual feast the gameplay was truly lacking! the dialoge system was very choppy along with the unexplained controls it was very confusing \_/ was def not worth the money

DreamCatcher don't have the best reputation, and this game (or the demo anywho) did nothing to raise my opinions of them, the game was boring and even shoddy at times.
well im not saying dream catcher is bad in anyway, in fact thats a reason that i bought their game, i saw the logo, but now it collects dust without a CD case lol
Reply #24 Top
you bought a game because of a logo?

well, i tend to trust SD games more than most...

and i made the stupid mistake of buying AOE 3 just cause it had the same name as AOE 2...
