I assume he wants to set a damage level and if the ship reaches that point then it automatically tries to retreat.

I asume he's not noticing the Inhibitor, which isn't that obvious in the diplay. It wouldn't hurt to give the ships some kind "Hyperspace blocked" icon or something.
