Diplomacy...

needs to be adjusted.

for one thing: if I've kept my AI from connecting with each-other end game, they have little ability to coordinate an attack on me (no real alliance)

anyhow among other things I have a few proposals:
1) have differing degrees of "hostility" in diplomacy; outright agression, moderate agression, passivity, friends, and bedfellows. for instance OA would mean attacking any and all ships (civilian to), moderate would ignore civilians but would attack any military in a grav well, passive would only move to guard things in a grav well, but not attack w/out provocation (or if they stay a bit too long/get too close), friends would mean trade rights, military access and choice relic sharing. and bedfellows would be military aid (help me damn you), intelligence pacts and full relic sharing
of course I think things like intelligence trade and relics should be togglable, but having some standards (and degrees) would be nice.

2) allow a "diplomacy ship" that can be researched part way into the game that would be immune excluding outright agression, would allow for pacts to be made with distant allies. perhaps they might even be a requirement for pacts (around friendly planets)

3) this doesnt quite fit here, but I like the idea that if you're zoomed out far enough you can see the boundaries in your empire, almost like a big amorphous blob of your color surrounding your empire, contested zones would be red/black/flashing etc. I think it would just look cool

and an add on 4) make the AI much more willing to ally with its bretheren to take down "the man" (if there exists one in any one game). its simply too easy to plow through the AI in game, currently its mostly about boom and bust cycles, booming through pirates, bust when met with a new enemy, contain the enemy, boom some more. its too simple that way.

I agree here, stronger than the other points. I also wish that this "diplomacy ship" could...oh...I dunno...ask an enemy ship if...say...if its making enough money...if ya know what I mean (It could bribe ships, fleets, structers, planets, whole gravity wells as long as you gots enough dough, if ya know what I mean).

of course, that would be reason for setting a person to outright hostility, wouldnt it.
stronger than the other points

whats this supposed to mean.

Personally i would like to see different degrees of treaties. I dont think a cease fire should automatically make you allies or grant them military access.

I think it should go 1)cease fire. basically you dont shoot me an i will do the same for you. 2) military access where you can move thru there planets. then 3) allience where you agree to help each other.

Thats just me though.

in addition to the degrees of treaties there should be scaled-up levels of trade. a bedfellow will be trading more with you than say, a neutral.

additionally I think bedfellows should spread each other's propoganda/share propoganda (so called "culture") or just let each other's propoganda spread through their territories w/out competition or negative effects (or bonuses... even)
it makes sense that if you're allying closely with one group you want them to seem as good as possible, and everyone knows that propoganda is a great way to make people feel good about you.

I believe it means that he was agreeing with that point more than the other points you made schem. Kind of like on a survey when the say "Agree Strongly => Disagree Strongly."

I was being sarcastically indignant, just to clarify.

I'd love to have a screen that easily shows every race and their current treaties/wars going on as I found it difficult to tell who was fighting who while allied with every race.

I agree with that you would not want to go to the war without looking at who they were allied with.

I completely agree.
I hope that this is something the devs plan on expanding.

Do the phrases "crimes against humanity" and "war crimes" ring a bell?

However, the other diplomatic options sound good. Empire Earth 2, while not as great as it could, nay, should have been, had different options such as what your ally could see within your territory (buildings, units, etc.) and what units could pass through your territory (i.e. no warships). The diplomatic envoy ship sounds interesting, but I'm not so sure it should be a requirement to make pacts with other empires. Spikyzero also had some good input. I enjoy games more when the only diplomatic option arent't just wether you're friends or enemies, or when I can score a victory by doing something other than the wholesale slaughter of all other players.

because of course, these people are all following proper etiquitte, including exiling people from their rightful homes, absolute genocide, slavery, murder and rampant drug addiction.
