System requirements? Raise the high end please...

System requirements? Raise the high end please...

This is a 2008 game, it should be designed for current day hardware...

Let me first off state that I KNOW the requirements have not been set in stone, but they seem to be lower that what is considered the norm these days...

Thinking about it, since the game is to be released in 2008 , I feel the system requirements should be bumped up a bit to allow having turrets fully functional along with hangers being able to be raised and lowered (TEC Carrier for Example). Swarms of fighters and bombers (30-40 at a time)... Massive fleets and defenses... And such...

As of this year the mainstream PC is becoming DUAL CORE and VISTA compliant. What does this mean, it means Most PCs will have at least 1 GB of RAM (some with 2GB and up to 4GB) and a pretty decent video card (128Mb-256Mb are standard) 320Mb, 512MB, 640Mb ,768Mb and 1GB video cards are on the market or soon will be, along with 2 cores and for the enthusiasts 4 core CPUs!

While no specific requirements have been set yet, it should at least be addressed...

Sure there might be a few people left behind, but PC gaming is EXPENSIVE, and the people who buy a game like SOASE have a average or better PC (Schem not included). Or by 2008 they probably will.

ADDITION: Let me be clear that everyone who can play the game as it is should still be able to once it is released, I just want the most possible eye candy in this game to be an option for those of us who want it.

Just some thoughts... All responses welcome! But keep it civil!

PhD? something to do with technology?

But hey I'll be happy with money only.

Haha dont we all
So are they paying you better then in the US?

@Multi - yeah.

Regarding the pay, I dont think it is better and in many ways I make less then I would in the US and my social benefit is very marginal. Moreover I work 14 to 16 hour days six days a week and went four years without a day off.

I'd have to agree in reguards to special effects; Take Homeworld 1, it fared so well for so long partially because at the time its graphics where ground braking at the time(story & gameplay a side) However you can achieve awesome looking effects without pushing up the requirments.

Take the example of Nexus / IG 3. Scale is a massive factor, rippling explosions across a dying hull - Nexus has an extremely robust engine and is scabaly on any system, but whatever system seeing a hulking ship be destroyed in such a way is graphically impressive, 8800GTX or not.

Hegemonia is another example, after witnessing a battle between large battlecrusiers and seeing the debris wrekacge, ships ripped in half. Sutle yet adds ALOT of depth and charachter.

With Homeworld 1, it was the scale of the battles - dozens of captial ships and hundreds of fighters / corvettes & frigates. Bigger is better but dosent mean higher system req.

Personally I've always felt sutle bump mapping, good lighting and good scale (fighters tiny in comparsion to a destroyer, battlecrusiers a huge lumbering titan etc) add alot more oppossed to the use of the latest directX Shaders. Probaly the best example is EVE Online; even today it looks great.
