Everybody watch out for Sarah Kerrigan!

The screenshots do not look very impressive -- but I have faith in Blizzard. I am also glad to see them this far along already.

It comes out 11/20/07

3 months before SINs, so at least there is a buffer zone for sales.

It will be game of the year, without a doubt...

gfx had a WOW feel to them, just smaller and more RTS like...

checkout the sc2 gameplay videos, its roughly 19-20 minutes in total.

well theres 3 versions of the gameplay videos, they have different quality.
1- no music, no explanations, no crowd
2- no crowd
3- everything.

1- no explanation by designer:
-this is like the above massive battle video (doesnt have music like the above link).

-nearly the full thing, no explanation/music, and is missing the stuff in the link just above this.

3- explanation and background crowd cheering.
random fight between terran and protoss with really nice nuke ending and zerg at the end

introduction to many of the new units:
The explanation of the units is in english (one of the designers of sc2 I think), while the rest of the stuff is in korean(fonts, unit speech)
part 1

part 2

i cant believe they're this far along already with it just announced... some tight liped employees.

They have been working on it for well over a year from I understand. The public announcement is merely a step along the development process.

While I would rather play Sins, since I much rather command fleets and empires instead of ground forces and a battlefield, I admit that it's about time that Starcraft 2 comes out. If it does come out on 11-27-2007, then it will give me something to do until Sins comes out. It is a great time to be a space based RTS, RTX4, or whatever, gamer!!

over a year

Apparently they was working on it in secret since Warcraft III: Frozen Throne came out.

Meh.

Oh I know... I meant that I was surprised they kept it secret for this far into the development. But Blizzard is always 'plagued' by high attention so any kind of early hypothetical release date, that ends up being a delay, always has some fallout heh. I'm not surprised they wanted to get it this far before they made people aware of the development.

They're very smart though in their advertising and use of betas to do so. From what I have read on the net, every beta since War3 has been "open" with unlocked multiplayer on non-bnet servers included, including war3, frozen throne, WoW. This is obviously intentional, if anyone can lock down a game to require central server access it's Blizzard heh. Bnet is a pioneer. So, it is likely the SC2 beta will be the same. It'll be a sharing storm lol, but I applaud them on their manipulation and smart-use of that nasty hacking community to get their product out there. Once you get people hooked on the multiplayer, they'll pick it up at release. Good for Blizzard. They'll have a strong community and public PR machine before the game is even released heh.

Rumours have been buzzing around for over a year, when blizzard anounced that they were not working on another MMO, I had the feeling SC2 was coming. And now the day of the anouncement is here.

where does this info come from? The official site says they're not saying anything about a date yet.

Indeed, more companies are doing the same thing. Bungy/microsoft allows people to play the first chapter of Halo2 PC without inputting a serial (so i've heared)

on topic:

I saw all the videos posted on gametrailers.com, and i wasent impressed at all. It just looks pretty, but it just looks the same to me.
Ofcource its hard to say anything yet, but for now, its not even on my WTB list.

Could be a fun blast, but I don't see a lot of depth there...yet.
game wasn't about depth... most games i played were 10-15 minutes long thanks to a little known tactic called the Zerg Rush

If you ask graphics to starcraft then dont even consider buying it. It a about gameplay, excelent balance between races(one if not the best), excelent story.
Graphics make game slower, SC was fast, very fast. You could lose a game in PGT in less than 5 min.

You never know what it'll be like... it's still too early to tell. It looks like an updated graphics engine atm, but we really dont know anything yet and I doubt Blizzard will make anything less than stellar.

They already announcement several unit that make protoss totally different from starcraft. One tank that can walk over wall, One Dragoon-isque from dark templer that teleport around, and a mothership with 3 abilities that only one can exist on map a time. Two from zerg is the zergling that can upgrade to baneling that is suicide bomb and a dune-isque worm that allow underground travel. Almost nothing is known about Terran other than reaper that can jump wall and has 2 pistol.

hm...
looking over the protoss descriptions, it sounds like spontaneous blitzkriegs are going to be an exceptional tactic for the protoss. I think one of my favorite strategies will end up being creating a spontaneous force-prism chain back into enemy territory.

talk to any of my friends, and you will learn that one of my favorite RPG strategies is a pinch manuver on the enemy base (while holding my enemy's main force at a choke point) being able to spontaneously port into enemy bases and wreak havoc with absolutely fresh forces will be fun . . .
