Sim City Societies

The hatred, the anger, the disgust... What has EA done?!?!?!

It was announced a day or two ago that the next game in the Sim City series will not be Sim City 5, but rather Sim City Societies... (you may vomit now)

Just Google it and you will get the entire first and 2nd pages filled with rants and petitions to not have this game be called Sim City.

Anyone else outraged? After the fine game that was Sim City 4, they now decided to outsource the next game to Tilted Mill, and to make it a societal game focused on cultures and stuff. These tilted mill guys are the same ones that made Caesar IV, and that was just about the worst city sim I ever played next to City Life.

Top that off that Sim City Societies will not be a city builder as we know it has been since Sim City first was back in the days of DOS.

I for one will not buy it... Just looking at the screen shots, it looks like a mix of City Life and the Sims 2...

*Reads about Gingerbread houses*

*Shoots self*

*Sadistic bullet wants to see me suffer and doesn't kill me, instead remains lodged brain, damaging key areas, for some reason SimCity Societies now seems like a good idea*

The real hell will be when you start cramming your face with gingerbread men and chocolate in some kind of sick Sim-eating frenzy....

OO, maybe one of the natural disaster things could be the aliens come down and eat your gingerbread men!

Or a flood of chocolate killing the entire town....

I really can't imagine how this can be realistic.

PLayers will actually have to choose between a Power Station or Chocolate factory, c'mon, when has that happened in the real world.

I'm not one for trampling attempts at innovation, but this attempt and "innovation" must be...uh...trampled.

There is a video up over on IGN , game looks ok, but is NOT a sim city game, it should be titled SIMS Societies or something like that...

Huh...game doesn't look as bad as I thought it could be, but your right, it is not a SimCity game.

No zones was a bad move, though Housing, Workplace and venue buildings all seem to be residential, industrial and retail zones condensed into single buildings.

Also, I only see roads, no motorways, railways or subways (yes I was one of those kids who played with a train set), airports, ferryports or space ports etc so thats a put off.

However I do like the freedom this game introduces, where you don't have to make your city happy, all your city HAS to be is productive, and some of the buildings she was talking about looked really good (especially the Orwellian obedience type buildings).

The graphics look top notch.

What I would do:

Return Zones to their rightful place.

Bring back and add to the transportation options of SC4RH.

Remove this "Societal energy" pap, Sims should be either happy, or productive (MWAHAHAHAHA), but keep the buildings (educational buildings, surveillance buildings etc) and have them simply alter your cities productivity.

Thats all I can think of for now, but those changes would put SimCity 5 (also, remove "Societies" from the title) on my "to buy" list.

Its coming out for Holiday 2007 , so less than 6 months, I guess what you see so far is what will be in it, just some spit and polish from this point on.

I would guess that nothing will be changed despite all the user uproar over it (maybe the name as a longshot). It's probably not even in Tilted Mill's hands but EA/Maxis. Depending on their schedule, any major changes would be out of the question because they'd miss their ship date.

Ever since EA killed Earth and Beyond I've been hoping they make bad games.

Though I couldn't resist C&C III- though it does not live up to the hype.
