Game pacing

Game pacing

Hello,

So I tried out the beta. Much fun. One complaint I had, though, was the speed of ships relative to other things in the game. Ships travel slow enough through gravity wells and even when phase jumping that it took away from the real-time aspect. On my games, the ships practically crawl through the gravity wells, which forces me to do a lot of sitting and waiting for things to happen, and doesn't allow for quick responses to actions by other players in real time, which is part of the draw of the RTS genre. Especially troubling was the lack of speed of the construction frigate, which can take quite a long time to get to a spot in order to start building.

Looking at Sins as a strategy/4x game, the pace isn't too much of a problem. Looking at it as an RTS, it is exceedingly slow. A game on a small map shouldn't take me 5-6 hours to finish, which it has. Hopefully there are plans to make the ships speeds (or even general game speed) adjustable in later versions.

Otherwise, thanks for a great game.

I haven't tried to beta also, but I do like the Alway reply about having controls to decide the game speed (construction time, ship speed, research time) without going into modding.

That way, all people would be please if the game can be balanced for each speed. Games without this kind of liberty (like I said in my thread "Time enhancement") are kind of frustrating in the long run.

EDIT: and this topic is mainly the reason why I haven't bought it so far. I was really too disapointed by some other games that are really too fast for my taste. I like long strategical games (like GC2) and hate unreal quick games (like SW Empire at war). But again, this is my opinion.

There is a reason we are here beta-testing, do you know what it is?

The guys are Ironclad are like us, they love strategy games, and if they could make this game as realistic as possible, they'd make a game that could last someone up to a year or more to complete, which in the grand scheme of strategy games, is perfect(in that aspect).

However, they have to make a game that sells, so it has to appeal to a larger audience than...say...me and my friends, but everyone. Everyone has their own opinions about how the game should be, and thus we are here beta-testing. Realize they are reading everything we say and do on here and then they go back and work on it.

So Yea...this whole speed issue is very important. My challenge to everyone is this, wait for Beta 2 and then see what you think. Play a few games and I mean really play them, take the day or so it can truly be worth playing and play to your death or to victory. Once it's released we can judge it again.
