Cap ships should have aa guns

cap ships should all have aa guns the reason for this is because if i was making a cap ship i would put aa guns on it as standard. They dont have to be extremly powerful it would just be better to have some. Like half as powerful as falck frigate. What you could do is have the auto cannons be able to shoot fighters. I knoiw kol has specail but it should have standard wepons.

if every cap ship has AA guns then there will be little use for fighters / bombers, once the B2 patch is out, both should be more usable, and also having carriers would help a great deal, so sorry I don't agree

yes but it is stupid if 1 groupe of bommers can kill a capital ship after a very long time i meen have very light aa guns that are like 10x worse than flack frigate guns

They already can, and do, I think. They're just not very effective at it (which is as it should be).

agreed, the best solution is to have a mixed and balanced fleet, at least one carrier and flak frigate, but I read somewhere that the flak frigate is bugged for some reason as well? but once these issues have been sorted then defence from bombers will be a lot better, and I think most cap ships should have little or no anti AA a price you pay for having them,

All capships have fighter ports. So if you think theres a bomber threat , just have fighters docked in them.

Flak frigates aren't putting fighters/bombers as their top priority in the current build, but it's already fixed internally so that'll be solved when IC gets a patch out.

ahh right thanks for that, hope the patch comes soon

I've tried ordering my cap ships to attack squadrons, and it shows a movement arrow following the squadron, not an attack line. I haven't actually checked to see if the ship was attacking the squadrons or not though.

Good, need to see this soon as my escort flak FF's are not doing the job!

Now 1 flak turret should be put on the light carrier,as is that vessel is naked.

but i have neaver seen any cap ships shooting fighters and im saying they should be able to shoot at fighters but be reely bad compaired to flack frigates i think thats good but having no aa at all is just stupid.
yes we need aa and when i tryed to get my cap ships to kill fighters it shows movement arrow

And i agree have it like a tenth as good as falck frigates but it should still be able to attack umm and fighters go for cap ships not fighters and bomers this is stupid cos in a battle you get better things to do

Count me in the affirmative group as well.

Frankly I find it frightful that they don't have AA default given the cost associated with them.

agreed and any desinger with half a brain would put them on a cap ship. What if their only aa escorts are killed then whot? I just think no aa is stupid

It was mentioned somehere on here, but all ships should have auto cannons that have a chance to do damage to fighters/bombers.

OK a couple of points. First of all, if the Cap ship can only kill fighters 1/10th as fast as a flak frigate, why bother? If one or two bomber squads are attacking the cap ship it would take forever for it take the cap ship out. Also, in that time you should be able to scuttle the bomber squad and replace it with a fighter squad. If your facing massive numbers of bombers, then the little bit of damage the guns you propose would do wouldn't make a hill of beans difference. All cap ships have some AA ability by afforded by the squadron slots, fighters are made as anti fighter/bombers. If you didn't upgrade your cap ships, and don't want to send in flak frigates to deal with the problem, you deserve what you get.

It just does not seem right for a primary vessel not to have inherent AA defenses other then a single fighter squad. I am under the impression that combined arms is a core tenant of the game design. Therefore this situation seems like a minor oversight.

yes auto cannons should have a chance of hitting fighter/bommers like homeworld the destroyers and other ships main guns (cannons) can shoot at fighters and kill slowly kill them but with a very low chance of hitting. It just stupid not having at least basic aa guns. And it would look super cool loads of point def going of all over the place like bsg. And you could also make bommers stronger or give them light shields of something.

come on for the price of a cap ship is extreme and so it should be extremely good so i it should have aa

Capitol ships aren't that expensive, and resources are easy to get late-game you can pump out a ton with little effort I simply choose not to as I find it silly, so I try to stick with 3 capitol ships only in each fleet and I use the others to defend planets from pirates.

Why should they be effective at taking out bombers? They're great at everything else, why should they be so versatile? EVERYTHING - needs a weak spot, you said it yourself it takes forever for them to die to bombers, why would you leave them unguarded?

It's called combined arms - It should be required and to be honest we need more of it.

It might not be entirley realistic but in games things need a downpoint, something they aren't that good at. Capitol ships are fast, they have immense firepower and they are versatile they need something which they can't handle .

I do agree it would have been much more realistic for larger ships to have a full range of defensive and offensive capabilities. However, this would make a rather dull game in the end as once we can construct that specific ship, there would be no reason to produce any other ship and how fun would the game be then.

I do play a ton of Homeworld 2 with different mods and the one I found to be most fun was the one you had to use a wider range of ships. The Tactical Fleet Simulator Mod does this brilliantly and gives you a skirmish where you end up using several types of ships. Even if you got a super battlecruiser it could live and kill a good bunch of fighters and bombers, but alone versus it wouldn't last enough. Accompany it with a range of interceptors and frigates and it's a tough match for any force.

And THAT, makes for a FUN game. I do hope they keep it as is, or close to, as I don't want to play a game where I only use one single ship. It's the variety that makes it fun.

As I see it, Sins of a Solar Empire is very similar to Homeworld 2 in that aspect, except it brings it to a higher level. In Homeworld 2 you fight one map, in Sins of a Solar Empire you fight galaxy-wide. And where Homeworld 2 need you to control the ships on a finer level, Sins of a Solar Empire has a smarter AI behaviour and you focus on the war on a grand scale.

The only issue I have with this is that in Homeworld 2 I care more about my capital ships, as they're much more expensive to build and it takes a long time. They become your pets. In Sins, I don't feel for my units. I just build them and send them off. I really hope to get something in Sins that I can feel for like that, something that feels special, somehow. If people understand what I mean. Even if it's only a command ship or whateer it is, something that I can only have 1 of. something that's mine, and personal.

AUTO

CANNON

TURRETS.

The community wants them, so do I.

Yaarr, I do think Capitol ships need a bit more personality I'm not sure how that would work though.

At level 10 some of them can be utter beasts, but they're still pretty easy to take out. I think they should be given a bit more power in certain aspects, made more expensive and costly to build - And I do think you should only be able to have one of each type.
