some ideas P5y and I discussed on IRC last night

last night me and P5y got talking about ideas on improving the game, have to admit the ideas he has come up with are very good, and worth a consideration, as there is a fair bit of text, I have split them up so that all the text about on an idea is in its own topic, that should make it easier to read and less boring, as I really don't know how to really do this, I have deleted none relevant text, and the time is GMT, and a big thanks to TristanGoodes without him, I think a lot of these ideas would have been forgotten or not fully remembered

so kicking off with the first idea,

[23:03] <matthewfarmery> I think the TEC should use the boardcast centre to send out ships, (make them expensive) to sway a planet, you have the advent fantics that can do the same, leaving the other race out, no point having all three races to have this ability

(post chat idea) as phase gates are going to be in the game, that would make this possible, but you should still need reaseach to understand the function of the gate and how to use it

[23:13] <matthewfarmery> yeah, or a countdown timer to ally, you automatically have all the players with a large bounty, and won't able to ally for some time, but somehow you must all become allies
[23:18] <matthewfarmery> maybe you have to get each player to pay off his own bounty, which will be very high, but there needs to be another requirement before the players cann ally

(post chat idea, while it would be good to have the the vasari threat as an option, maybe it could be possible to make it a 50/50 of it happening, if the players automatically know that its coming, then they will always ally to counter it, but if it has a chance for the threat to appear, then that would make the game more interesting, and less Predictable

something else that came up but damn forgot to copy the text, was and this is p5y also, is that if you completely capture a star system, you become a system lord, and it will grant a bonus, (can't remember who thought this up but, one of the bonuses could be increased culture rating, so that planets are nuch harder to take over by the advent fanatics and the broadcast tower ship, , there could be other bonues as well perhaps? and if a player is system loard, they should have an icon in the diplomacy window,

and the last thing we chattted about was making the planets a bit more detailed, if this was possible in the game engine, cities but there would be gray and black blobs, domes would be seenable, as could very old walls, but if this isn't possible or worth it, then fine, but that pretty much covers what we spoke about,


that's it folk, but I really do like the ideas that p5y came up with, if sins do have these idea in it, I think it would be a much more interesting game

I really like (i think) the end game idea! I've never played birth of the federation but that sounds like a really nice idea however its implemented. That would definitely spice up things considerably!

How about some kind of mercenary or generic evil force that raids you ALONG WITH the pirates but will only do it according to bounty, that would be interesting to see.

Or perhaps rogue military fleets just moving around at random killing pirates + you + everyone else but have a low respawn rate.

A home-planet riot system would be cool, in that your planet gets taken over on the ground and they send pilots and fighters up to rebel against you... Basicly i want more scripted combat with sort of Deus Ex Machina forces that come in when you least expect it and completely change a game plan.

I like the ideas from the chat too, was that with a dev or somthing ? System lords sound cool, maybe when you get that pirates and mercs get lower spawn rates but rebel fleets spawn faster.

Sins has so much potential, the engine is just crying out for some additions !

I wondered what happened to the names, as for the end game idea if you read post chat idea, I did say make a 50/50 chance of happening, so that it won't happen in every game, and this should be an option to disable / enable the threat anyway, so that at least keeps the game interesting, as you won't know if the threat will be present in you game or not,
