Scrolling Speed

Sorry if this has already been mentioned (I searched for "scrolling" and "scrolling speed" but didn't find any posts). Basically, the scrolling speed seems to randomly switch between reasonable and out of control-fast. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using the keyboard arrow keys or the mouse. There does not seem to be any particular event that triggers the switch, it seems to occur randomly. I just got the beta today, so haven't spent a lot of time with it yet (love it so far though). Perhaps I'm just accidentally hitting some key that triggers "fast" scrolling (i.e., could this be a feature that I'm just not using properly)?

haven't seen this happen yet... are you in windowed mode or full screen?

Out of curiosity, do you have an Athlon64 x2 processor?

It is an Athlon64, but not x2. The graphics card is ATI x1600, operating system's Widows XP, 2GB RAM. I believe I was in Full Screen mode--visually this just means there's no Widnows "frame" around the game display area, right? If so, then yes--full screen mode.

On my old system, I've had situations where I scrolled during a slight processing delay and overshot my mark. I simply scrolled too far during the slight pause, and when my processor went back to work it processed my entire delayed scroll command = out of control fast scroll.

I guess there is a chance that this is the same problem as I'm seeing, but I don't thinks so. The overall performance of the game on my system has been great so far. I haven't seen any significant delays/lag of any kind yet. Besides, during the fast scroll "mode", even the slightest quick tap of the arrow key would send the camera flying way too far, and this would happen immediately upon the key press (no delay).

Thanks Homer. I've heard several reports of this before.

Does it feel like the scroll 'slips' and you zoom in extremely close all of a sudden?
Was the camera plane almost level when you zoomed in?
Can you correct the speed by pressing the shift button?

Yes, I'd say that's a very accurate description.

Sorry, I don't recall... I think I saw it happen when the camera plane was not level, but I am not sure about this. It also seemed to affect camera rotation speed.

I will try this tomorrow. Usually, the problem seems to disappear by itself within a minute or two of when I first see it. So it's possible that the "fixing itself" actually occurs due to my hitting some key (like shift).

As to what might trigger it, at one point it started immediately after I hit the Toggle Zoom Level button twice (zoomed out using the button, scrolled around a bit at normal speed, zoomed back in using the button, scrolling speed went out of control for a couple of minutes). But I have seen this issue when I wasn't using that button, too.

We have something in the works. Appreciate the details.

Sure, no problem. The shift thing didn't work, but one thing I found that seems to always work is to save and reload the game.

By the way, the same issue also affects how zooming in on an object using ctrl+click works. When the problem is in effect, zooming in with ctrl+click places the camera a lot farther away from the object than the "normal" mode.
