simplify this game for pete's sake

This insane microing has to stop in space sims. Better to put 10 icons on side of screen and dedicate ships to these generals by right clicking. Also better to put simplified family (no quirks or stats on them plz) to run solar systems or ships (they upgrade ships and stuff for free on their own). Also the main screen should really be just two dimensional then from there 3 dimensional. It really blows looking around for stars systems at this point.

I have no real input here since I'm not in the beta, except for this

Also the main screen should really be just two dimensional then from there 3 dimensional.

WHAT!?!? That would just be a real time GalCiv2, Sins is a space strategy game and you can't have *real time* strategy in space in this day and age without three dimensions, ships must move up, ships must move down, they can't sit on one plane and take a pounding, like I say I have no experience in the beta but I don't need to to know that this game *must* be 3-D for it to be playable (read fun) and profitable.

Microing? you just select the ships in the empire tree, and clock on the map.

Capital ships can upgrade them selfs if you right click the skill icon.

2D for the main screen?? you mean when you zoom out or in battle?
You can always turn the camera so you look down on everything, that kinda makes it 2D

personally I like this in a game, the game should have more not less, ok it might not be for everyone, but I think the way that sins is working right now is a bit too simple

Hi Baron,
Thanks for your feedback.
Could you please elaborate on the quote above. I am not quite sure what you mean by this. Also, what do you consider micro about the game - could you give some examples of what is bothering you?

Thanks!

sounds to me like you want a movie instead of a game...
a 2-D movie.

ask me and I say the game is too simple, needs new things to be added.

Believe me, I'm a TBS nerd who is incompetent in RTS games, and this one (against comps on "easy") is really not difficult to manage : it cannot become any more simple.

You have to practice, to get used to the interface, the camera, and the build & research routines.

Start with a comp ally in a 2 v 1, on one star-system, with 33 planets : just to get the hang of things.

Believe me : I'm a RTS amateur, and I have found that game quite simple to manage. Of course, I would not dare do MP games against experienced RTS players, but I have no ambition in that respect. Competing against comps on "easy" satisfies me, for now.

@ Ironclad : Your awesome game is OK as it is, do not dumb it down.

I'm with schem, the game is definately NOT too complex, no way no how. I dunno about adding things, we could try it and see of course, but no way should it be made "simpler". It's really great the way it is, give it another try. If you still think it's too complex, maybe this isn't the game for you. Much as I hate to say it, there is no perfect game, even the most popular has it's critics. Most people seem to be pretty happy with the overall game, might need some tweaking, but the consensus seems to be that the core gameplay is pretty freaking awesome .

I agree with Ninja, too simple... More Autocannon Turrets, methods to back stab in multiplayer, and more cool shiny stuff that explodes or causes things to explode.

I didn't think this game could get much easier to use... Go play the SOTS demo and when you get back SINS will seem 10x better

SOTS Demo

1 Minute in - Wheres the health or status bar?
15 Minutes in - Still looking for that health bar?
2 Hours Later after Rummaging through Kerberoes Forums and Much Frustration - "We decided to simplify things, damage is represented visually."

Where is the health bar?

Some think the game is too simple as it is now, and you want it dumbed down some MORE?! I dont think so.

The gameplay is 2d though you can move your ships in 3d if you want to. If the devs made the main view non- rotateable i think it would break the gameplay as it is now, and an absolute riot would start.

Right now, though it still needs a little work (mainly in the AI which is being addressed in the coming patch) you can practically sit back, and just watch whats going on. All you have to do is tell your fleets where to go. The AI does the rest. Right click on ability's, and they will auto execute when charged up. You can also right click on capitol ship upgrades to auto upgrade.

You can also create control groups, and rally ships to those control groups. They will automatically join the group they are being rallied too.

And you think this is "hard".

It seems to me someone did not play the tutorials, or is just trying to troll. I am thinking the latter.

Well, Sins devs have to make a decision... Is Sins going to be a strategy game or not. As I see it Sins has the option of becoming a true empire-building space opera and simplifying the game would not be a step in this direction.

The OP would IMO have to find a game more... him. Like Duke Nukem.

It sounds like Baron Fat Bastard just hasn't learned the UI yet. Maybe there should be a manual released for the Betas. Or better yet, set up a Wiki and when it comes time for the release, the manual will be written for you

I like that idea, plus anyone can write and update it, plus if it had strategies as well, and basic gaming tips that would be good,

Wouldn't be the first beta with a wiki

If it becomes any simpler, Pong will look like Quantum Physics in comparison. What Sins needs at the moment is more depth, not less. And that seems to be the direction it's taking with the beta, luckily.
Agreed more depth is on the way, and thank goodness for that!

If Pete wants this game simplified then he's a f$%^%^g idiot. Now more options (think sliders) to manage how indepth it is, so people who want an easier or shorter game can have it while also allowing people who want depth to have it would be perfect. Though given the amazing pita that would be I doubt we will see it and I can understand.

lol... u say the game is to hard? its a pc game! i repeat: they are making a pc game, not some dumbed down console peice-of-crap game. if u want a game that is any simpler go play pong... or tetris... wait... tetris might be to complicated...

there is a reason it is part of the rts genre! note last letter of that: S. it stands for strategy, you know, that word that means you have to think (gasp)

and about it being 2D... if u want to play a 2D game... go play space invaders or something!
nice, simple, and 2D

RTS games are generaly not for idiots, the same goes for RPGs (MMO's Excluded)

Therefore, looking at our target audience we can see that the game must indeed be even MORE in-depth, and thats exactly what IronClad will do.

If anything, it's already too simple. Build it, send it. Do it again.
