New GPG Title - Space Siege (RPG)

This seems to be interesting...GPG, the developer of Supreme Commander, announced a new game called Space Siege, a "spiritual successor" of sorts to their Dungeon Siege title. Essentially, you are a human on board a colony ship escaping from a ruined Earth, and have to fight away some sort of alien infestation growing on your ship. You can augment yourself with various cybernetic enhancements, and go hardcore, isolating your fellow humans, you can stay "pure" and have a more difficult time fighting off the aliens, or you can do a blend of the two...it has co-op multiplayer mode, and a dynamic storyline.

You can find out more here: http://www.gaspowered.com/news_detail.php?ID=206

What do you think? I like the idea of sacrificing your humanity to save the humans on board your spaceship...it's nice to see a sudden flurry of sci-fi titles in the works (Crysis, Bioshock, SupCom: Forged Alliance, and in some ways, even Spore...). On a side note, how does Dungeon Siege play, assuming anyone here has ever tried it? I'm not too familiar with RPGs...

yeah, read it not to long ago, found it on gamershell.

To be honest, i think Chris Taylor should try and keep to one game only. He aint even finished with Spore yet (if ever hint: release set to 2009).

Um, as far as I know, Chris Taylor has nothing to do with Spore, it's the man behind the Sims who is running part of the show.

As far as I know, there is a co-op multiplayer, where the game becomes slightly more complex with time, but I have no clue how it works...

Everyone, feel free to post any articles related to this new game. We're kinda short right now.

The closest thing to a screenshot right now would be the title bar, at this page: http://www.gaspowered.com/

He looks kinda like a robot-cop of some sort.

Oblivion is the only RPG i will ever need to play.

Fallout 3 sounds pretty good so far, it will also be a RPG very similar to Oblivion, as it made by the same studio.

Your ignorant ways shall soon be extinguished, TheGreatEmperor. There will be better RPGs than Oblivion; Fallout 3 sounds like one of them (there was a player statistic for # of corpses eaten...if that isn't cool, I don't know what is ).

However, we will have to wait and see for this new title...if it's sci-fi in nature, it's worth investigating.

Ah ok hopes that it'll be good. But we'll wait and see. Right now I want to get into the series so I'll buy the two Dungeon Sieges.

I'll also stick with my free MMORPGs (like Rappelz and Regnum )

If they ruin Fallout by making it anything like Oblivion I will be upset. Reading on it some though I still have some hopes.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Oblivion is RPG is its purest form. No, you're not some pre-thought out being with a huge sword but that's not what RPGs are about. It's about role-playing; you make your own character and you can do whatever the hell you want. That's about as close to an RPG as you can get.

Now if you want to call me an Oblivion lover, I'm not. I think the story was pretty bland and I don't play it (I'd rather play Morrowind, its predecessor).

On the other hand, the Dungeon Siege series has always emphasized co-op within the story. This translates roughly into a better Diablo 2 game. With sequels.

How can you call it an RPG when NONE of your character choices have any consequence, late game every character is exactly the same no matter how you started. Yes you can wander around and do whatever doesn't make it an RPG.

Well, there are consequences, different skills, different paths. Even different quests open to you as you come into contact with people.

Sure there isnt any alignment, but there is the fame system, and I think that is enough.
