Halo Mod?

I'm sure that there will eventually be a Halo mod, so i'm starting this thread to get some ideas. ex. the sides, ships, tech...

p.s. sorry if someone else has already started a thread on this

I wouldn't recommend it. As someone on the DoV team, which was connected to Halogen, I can tell you right now that Bungie and Microsoft do not take kindly to RTS modifications of Halo.

A Halo mod for Sins would be fine. Halo: First Offensive, which is a Halo mod for Star Wars: Empire at War, is still active. It's allowed to remain in production because it contains space combat, which Halo Wars does not have. I would assume that since Sins is space only, a Halo mod would not be shut down.

I'm thinking of course the sides will be UNSC (United Nations Space Command) And the Covenant. Possible have the raiders and pirates be ships that were taken over by the flood? They would be a mix of both factions ships.

The mod, if it ever get's started, will probably last till Microsoft decides to make a space combat rts for halo and ends it.

And maybe the insurgents could be the human rebels, the dudes that weren't with the UNSC or Covenant. Here's a link to some info on the human rebels WWW Link. Here are some other things I think could be in the mod :

1. Adding boarding options (if there isn't any already) to capture or sabatoge enemy ships.

2. Giving the Covenant a lower tech ceiling, since they're tech is mostly copied from the Froerunners and they probably don't invent anything by themselves. Ex. They start with pretty strong ships, but they basically use the same ships throughout, and their stats basically remain the same.

3. Giving the UNSC more research options, and say if they capture a Covie ship, they could reverse-engineer it and research it allowing mass production of the ship.

And that's all for right now.

last game someone tried to mod with halo stuff ended up getting shutdown by MS/Bungie since they were in the development of their own official RTS for halo. we also i dont think really have many spacecraft visuals from the halo universe to really make a space mod for it for SoaSE either i dont think. if this was a ground based game though we would have way more options...and then would probably also be shutdown by MS/Bungie since that is what their's is.

Well I've allways been told that ressing old topics is better then making new ones, so yeah. I figured a nice good Halo mod would be great to have, since in the Halo universe space battles were the main part of the war. A few posts up someone said Halo didn't have that many ships, and that's not entirely true. The games themselves show several types of ships, and you can allways use fan art.

Human ships

Halcyon class battleship

Pheonix class colony ship (Refitted to be a warship for Halo Wars)

Frigate

Longsword fighter

Shortsword bomber

Covenant Ships

Assault Carrier

Battlecruiser

Frigate

Agricultural support ship (Not sure of it's use but it's good for covenant build styles)

Seraph fighter

And those are just the cannon ships, not even delving into the fan-made ones. So yeah, there are a lot of ships to be used, and I think Sins would fit Halo space combat quite well.

The Halo books (which no one except me read apparently) had great descriptions of space combat in the Halo universe, for both Human and Covenant. Granted, taking a few canon liberties would be necessary, but I think the mod would be very do-able.

Exactly, that's what I was going off of. The games only really follow the Chief, and his adventures, they don't showcase the war as a whole like the books do. And in the books the space battles were what was important, not the chief or the other spartans (Allthough they were the lead characters).

I mean if the Humans lost the space battle, it didn't matter wether every single covie on the planet was killed, the humans still lost the colony.

But if a Halo mod was to be made, I'd rather have realism then balance really. (Allthough if done right, you can have both.) The Covenant had more ships, and their ships OWNED the human ships. A covie cruiser could take on three human cruisers and win with ease. I'd want to see that in the mod. How exactly you'd make it balanced I'm not entirely sure, but I'd want a sense of 'Ohshi covies!' to be on the minds of the human players.

i like this idea and if i had any skill at modding/coding/gamedesign/stuff i would do it but since i have no talent

let me just say theres are quite a few options for ships and as stated above http://halo.wikia.com/ is a good place to start or bungie depending whether or not halo wars is already out when you start this but it probably wont matter to them because we are talking space battle not ground and ive just repeated everything everyone has already said so i'll stop now

microsoft doesn't own bungie so they can't make anymore halo games :P i don't think bungie would make too big a deal out of a mod either

This would be awesome, try not to let it die, or to let the Microsoft Law-Ninjas shut it down.
