Input Signal Out of Range

Input Signal Out of Range

On the opening credits and movie the default resolution needs to be set higher. Most people have converted to LCD monitors by now and most LCD monitors have native resolutions much higher than 800 by 600. I found in the options to set the game res higher but this had no effect of the opening credits. Every time I start the game I get a big box on the bottom of my screen saying input signal out of range and about one time in 4 it will actualy crash my monitor. I then have to turn off my monitor and turn it back on again. This is realy hard on a monitors core componets and my IBM Thinkvision wasnt cheep. Please set the opening of the game to a suported resolution with the next patch. Anything over 1024 by 768 would be fine but anything lower crashes my monitor.

I couldn't say where it'd be in nVidia's panel, as I don't use any nVidia cards myself, but I know it's somewhere in there.

Try Reforce, and set all the resolutions to 60Hz to be safe. Reforce has always worked for me in the past.

If you have an ATI card, the control panel has a refresh rate force option.

I would recommend using Reforce and setting the resolutions to a setting you feel is safe, which is usually around the 60Hz mark.

EDIT: That message can suggest a refresh rate being used outside what is supported by your monitor. It could be trying to use a maximum refresh rate that is not supported by your monitor. Try force the refresh rate and let us know how it goes.

2nd Edit: Some posts on the page weren't displayed when I wrote this. Sorry if any of it is answered.
Its not the refresh rate that is messing with me, its the resolution. I already have the refresh locked.

I sent an email to NVidia support so I guess I will see in a few days if they will help me. I found, in the hot keys section of their control panel a way to toggle scaling on and off but it was designed for laptops and is disabled on regular PCs. I am looking for a way to force it to recognize the command instead of giving me an error message stating "No LCD Found Connected to Video Card".

Any help in this dirrection would be welcome.

There is an application section for controlling stuff like forcing AA -- I think the force resolution option is in there too.

Are you using a DVI connection or a VGA connection?

No its not in there. Thanks though

DVI off the Video card with a VGA adaptor that came with the card pluged into it for my monitor.

Crap! LOL that might be why its not recognizing my monitor as an LCD. I just sent my reply with aditional info to the tech support of Nvidia before comming here to check
I guess I will double reply to them with this info.

Thanks Kryo

Quite possibly. It's best to have a pure digital connection all the way for an LCD.

FIXED IT!!!!!! hahaha The numbskulls at Nvidia still havent gotten back to me after the second info request but through poking around I found an option that is turned on by default in the Nvidia Control Panel that was causing my monitor not to be able to display anything under 1028x whatever resolution. There is a box at the bottom of the Display Mode Timing section that says "Enable double scan for lower resolution modes" that is the root of all evil as far as I am concerned. I havent been able to play any of the old games I love on this computer because of it. It is checked by default. I unchecked it and there is no longer any input signal out of range message. Haha I just got done downloading like 10 old abandonware clasics and tried them all, even the 320x200 res games.

There is still the issue of my scaling toggle not working and I will continue to try to fix this. It not recognizing I have an LCD might be why the box was checked by default. I hope NVidias negligence hasnt done any excessive wear and tear on my monitor. If it was double scanning that means the NVidea driver was forcing my LCD to 150hertz. Thankyou all for the help.
