New Feature Ship Selector Bar?

Hi all,

In systems with a gazillion ships, I am having trouble finding a particular ship (i.e. colony ship).

The side bar is useful in figuring out which ships are in the system, but it does not allow for easy selection of a particular ship.

Would it be possible to add some sort of ship selection feature to the GUI? Perhaps a toolbar with all the different ship types in a system and a drop down for each ship. Then the user can select all ships (by clicking on the ship type) or a select a particular ship from the menu?

A decent work around for this is to assign your colony ship to its own fleet (Ctrl 1-9). Then, when you need it you can simply use its number or find the fleet number in the side bar, at the top of the list. I have found this very useful. At least until I get too many fleets to free up any numbers.

That's how I do it Amalric, though as Craig said we are looking at more accessible options.

Problem is, you don't always know that you're going to need a given ship ahead of time... I can't count the number of times I've been in the middle of combat, and realized I need to detach some light frigates or scouts to check for incoming enemy reinforcement... or at least let me see what the next target is (on "shoe-string" style lanes). Or needed to grab a couple of flak frigates and get them back to the carriers, ASAP!
