Improve jpeg Preview Quality

Hi,
How do I improve on the quality of the jpeg which has to be used for the preview picture of any pngs I upload for docks.
The problem I have is that the png looks crisp, clear and clean but the jpeg preview looks pretty awfull.I set the quality to 100% in pspx but it still looks poor.
Thanks in advance.

If you mean you set compression to 1 from Options on save dialog, that is as good as it gets.
I just downloaded one of your icons, right clicked and saved the preview thumb, I don't see why you think they look pretty awful. A little crispness/sharpness will be lost due to the difference in the way info is saved for a jpg compared to a png.
The background you have in preview is causing a little more lose. I have the png, jpg of png I made and the preview thumb open in PSPX. Try a simpler background.

Thanks for the advice Cavan1,I think I'll use a simpler background in future as you suggest.

The problem with jpegs is that each time you or anyone else saves them you "loose" something of the original. That's why it's called a "lossy" format. You may also suffer degradation if you resize the previews. I'd suggest staying with the psimage format until you "export" your finished product to both png and jpg.

Thanks Lantec.I get what you mean about 'lossy'.I'll minimize the ammount of saves/exports.
Cheers.
