First Impressions of combat

Just a quick fire response regarding my first impressions of combat.

To sum up in one sentence; I found the combat un-involving and lacking any kind of tactical flair, particularly given being restricted to a 2d plane.

That said, still enjoying combat and the other aspects of the game, and I will post more impressions and detailed responses after I complete my fist game.

Cheers,

FYI, you can move ships on the Z axiz by holding the ~ key, similar to using shift in homeworld.

Thanks for the info kyro.

The scale is too big for single ship tactics ala Nexus. Many had asked for high end fleet formations with relavent controls but this has been dodged. The battles look nice but that's about it in my view.

Am I right in saying that Nexus was not always called Nexus but was to be another installment of the Imperium Galactica series?

Personally I think setting tactics for single ships along the lines of 'aggressive', 'defensive' etc. is doable given the scale and that there is already a 'button' to set the engagement range 'i.e.' weapon range, gravity well etc. Likewise I think, given the scale, it is still possible to set other tactics, such as focus on using such and such weapon system vs such and such classes of ships.

I agree whole heartedly with you Ashbery that fleet formations are needed...what do you mean by 'but this has been dodged'?

Kyro, using the ~ key has no effect and I am still unable to access movement on the Z axis

I think the key was changed to either shift or Z, don't remember.

Indeed you are.

You guys should worry less about Z movement, and more about my mighty TEC fleet lead by the Battleship Pwnicus II, as it turns your mighty empire into space dust....

Hey P5y,

I was going to tell you to remap the z axis key to something easier for you, but I realized you can't currently remap it. You will be able to in the next patch.

Cheers

Yarlen, would I also be correct in saying that some of the devs behind Nexus when it was indeed Imperium Galatica, have since found their way here and created Sins?

I believe you need to manually use the move command, then you can use ~ to move along the Z axis (it doesn't currently work with right-click move).

Hi Kyro! After experimentation I have found that z axis movement is bound to the '¬' key, which on my keyboard is just to the left of the '1' key and just above the 'tab' key.

On my keyboard the '~' key is just to the left of the enter key, below the ']' key and above the 'R-shift' key.

A few issues with movement on the z-axis though, primarily that if u want to phase to another planetary body you have to move back down to 0 on the z-axis

Hope this info helps a few others...

Ah, that's where ~ is on a US-English keyboard.

Some of them worked on Cataclysm.

Since no one seems to be having this difficulty, I'll post. How the H--L are you supposed to kill other ships?! I just had 1 Koll, 9 Lt Frigates, 1 Colony, 3 squadrons of fighters and 4 Gauss Towers simultaneously attacking a Pirate Pilager then a Rogue and they did ZERO (0) damge, even though I had researched all 3 Gauss upgrades, all 4 laser upgrades and 2 metallurgy and 4 canon upgrades. The pillager was a basic unit with less capabilities than one of my frigates.

Restart your game, sounds like you ran into a known bug that causes tutorials to not properly reset.

Perhaps you were fighting MY units, which are invincible...

Yes I too cannot seem to fire any kind of weapons at pirate cruisers.

Again, did you by any chance just play the tutorial? There is a known bug involved with the tutorials and having troubles with combat afterword.
