Share your replays with the community.

The Recorded Game function in Sins seems to be working ok now. I haven't had any crash issues with it since the latest update.

I would like to see a replay repository similar to what was done for Supreme Commander for the Sins community so we can share our experiences with others (it may help the dev's too). If the mods would create a sticky section specifically for replays that would be great.

To find your replays look in (for Windows XP) C:\Documents and Settings\"your user name"\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\RecordedGame. I dont use Vista. So someone else please point the way for Vista

They will be large files depending on how long the game was, How many AI's were used, and how large of a map was used, but they will zip, or rar up nice, and compact.

Note: Post replays only current beta version of Sins. Any replays from past versions will not work, and will crash the game. Also specify the sins version number on your replay so that if the game is updated nobody downloads it by mistake.

What do you think people?

For Vista it's:
X:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\RecordedGame

Replace "X" with the drive letter where you've installed Windows.

For XP:

X\Documentsandsettings\ you user name" \ AppData\Ironclad Games\ Sins of a Solar Empire/recordedgame.

X stand for the same thing as it did in sand's post. I'll see if I can get them on filefront sooner or later.

EDIT: oops you already put that

Put this in the right folder and see if it works!

Sorry if its not a complete game.

Is there anyone in this community involved with gamereplays.org or any other similiar sites?

I am a member , mostly doing stuff with COH here and there...

I will see what is needed to get a SINS section started

My ID on there is also lordkosc

Blair if you like, I'll get the ball rolling and see what is needed, from what I know , its mostly run my fans. I know I'd be interested in helping it get off the ground and then take a more, "working in the background" type of role.

Ive been a member since beta of supreme commander, but not involved.

this is the place to contact them http://gamereplays.org/about.php

The each section is run by the trusted gamers

edit:
oh lordkosc came before me
Well you find out then, your english is abit better

I sent them an email stating interest in starting a SoaSE section, I carbon copied Blair Fraser and Yarlen.

Multi/Anyone else, once I/we find out what is involved, I'd love a few helpers on this... Reading over the gamereplays site, it looks like its a site made by gamers for gamers, so as long as we have IC/SD's approval, gamereplays.org should be able to set up a section for us. Ironclad might need to set up a small graphic icon to display on their site, but that is about it. The members of the site help to moderate and keep order.

On a side note, I'd prefer one place for all replays, it has worked very well for COH.

Oh my , yes I saw by your email that is it a bit more complex , but I feel Sins could fit in quite well there.

The plan is to add a library to the Sins site closer to release that will host replays, mods, etc. akin to the GalCiv II library. I'll have to look at gamereplays.org as well.

The thing about gamereplays.org compared to hosting on your own site is we have hundreds of thousands of gamers from all walks that will see your game and pique interests. Blocking your community to your own site will result in much fewer views than a high ranked community network.

I'm not saying we WILL support Sins but without an early look we likely will not.

Well hopefully something will be worked out between IC/SD and gamereplays , maybe once Beta 3 is out, so they get a taste of what multi-player will be like. Heck I want a taste, now!!! Stats are already in the game, at the end of game win screen, so that is one piece of the puzzle already.

And I will say , playing COH online, I made more friends via gamereplays.org than I did off the Relic forums section for COH. Mostly because I really liked watching some replays and then said to myself, that is someone I'd love to have on my side!

Bit of necromancy here. but I tried to get GR to put sins onto their site.. they declined saying that the lack of micro and length of game meant they didn't see this game being a competitive RTS... oh well.

Sins.biz will host replays (right multi?) There are several replays already on the site plus some good maps

We have several already on line but they are for the GE clan only. In the future we will have public ones. There are other things we want to do soon as well but we are really waiting to see what the total plan IC has because we dont want to step on anyone toes and more importantly duplicate resources for the community.

LOL

Yeah, agreed Craig. Though I will admit to wondering if they meant that in the sense of "it won't be competitive when it comes to sales" or "it won't be competitive because no one will put it in competitions" / "compete in any competitions".

We will be creating a download library for Sins where people can upload/download mods, replays, etc. :)

So has anyone contact these naysayers again and provided them some of the recent great reviews as evidence that the title is worthy of consideration? Or is someone planning on going unibomber on them for the heresy?

Interesting. Will this be intergrated in to stardock central , will it be intergrated in to Ironclad servers or will it be intergrated into a Forum or webpage

heh, I try this all the time. thing is that people LOVE to not comment on when you do well, and love mocking you for your errors.

It's going to be a web-based library. It won't be integrated into any apps.

On the contrary, many people like complementing on well-played games. I've gotten plenty and given plenty, regardless of who won.
well yeah, the in game players are apt to do it, but politeness and humility are not so common here.

I think they feel it won't get the sort of 'high level' play and large amount of traffic they need to justify a portal <-- these are my interpretations of the replies I got. There is a school of thought in GR that if you can't micro, the ceiling for improvement and therefore long-lived competitive play is low. So, something like COH, or SC fits their site well, but SupCom is probably borderline.

I'm not saying I completely agree with what they are saying, so put your flamethrowers down :) .. strategy takes longer to play out than tactical victories, so maybe the attention span of your average GR player won't go for Sins...

The thread on GR is http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=330077 if you are interested. No flaming please :)
