What is this community's opinion of competitive multiplayer?

I'm curious to know.

So, I've received the emails concerning GameReplays support for this game, and I want to do a little bit of background research.

First, I'll start off by stating my personal view of RTS games and game design.

I look at RTS multiplayer as a form of martial arts. Anyone familiar with Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, and The Matrix will know how fun and entertaining flashy moves can be. If you draw the comparison to RTS, you can see similarities between Jackie Chan/Jet Li and world famous Starcraft players like Boxer and Nada.

Effectively speaking, whenever I play an RTS game, I want to be the Jackie Chan/Jet Li of it. I want to be able to do clever, "out of the box" things that allows me to say, defeat 10 units with just 2 units (or something like that) when ordinarily if I left my 2 units to do their own thing, they would simply get annihilated. I want the game to reward me for sharp actions and quick thinking.

So my question is, how does this community perceive multiplayer gaming? Do you love/hate competing against other players online? Do you prefer a "hands off" approach to playing or do you prefer to pull a MacGyver and do something seemingly impossible and amazing via precise and creative control over the elements of the game?

Thanks

P5y,
Great work! This is the kind of thing we're looking for

Something I really miss in a lot of games is a custom map option instead of a cookie cutter map option. Some games have custom maps in single player but then only cookie cutter maps in multi-player. As long as Sins can stay away from that the better as not everyone wants to grind on the same maps all the time.

Great idea's for maps though ps5, especially desolation!

P5y, that is some very cool work! Do you have experience in map design? We'll try those out internally and see how they work out. Who knows, a couple of them might form the basis of some beta 3 multiplayer test maps...

Thanks! . I think ive got a quite a bit of map making expierence , mostly in homeworld 2 where my mappack is basically the maps used in online play. Also won a map competition for space maps in Empire at war , and came third overall with land and space.

I am much like Tsed in Reply #6, as I too like to play co-op against the computer. However, when I do play against other people, I think it would be great to have a Conquer the Galaxy mode where your victory in a specific star system added it to your territory on the galactic map. C&C has something like this called World Domination, and MechAssault 2 had a Conquest multiplayer mode where each planet conquered was tracked on the galactic map. It would be fun to sit down to a long, hard battle over a star system and later, after your hard won victory, go onto a screen which showed all star systems under control of your faction, including the one you just conquered. It would add a sense of purpose and accomplishment to the time you devoted to a long multiplayer game. Or what if there were a cooperative campaign or two complete with objectives and storyline, for those of us who don't spend a whole lot of time vs. other players but want a more meaningful co-op battle? True, it may be to late to implement any of this, but sooner or later a patch, expansion pack, or sequel to this game will roll out, giving the developers a second, third, or more chances to add these ideas, and more. Just a few thoughts...

Also, great work P5y! Most impressive!

Also, I know that this probably has already been said, but I would appreciate a map editor (which I believe has been confirmed) and a random map generator for single player skirmish AND multiplayer battles. If the map editor has been confirmed, can anyone tell me how easy/difficult it will be to use? For example, the Starcraft editor was easy to use. Thanks!
