Brace for collision

Ships should be able to collide with each other, whether on purpose or by accident. I used the Kamakazi tactics in Homeworld all fo the time back in the day. Plus it would be cool if there was a capital ship that had the ability to self-destruct and cause massive splash damage (make it a level 6 ability, so you'll think twice before sacrificing a valuable ship). If this does become an ability, I would just ask the devs to not make it auto-cast.

That would be awesome! I would love to send my cobalt frigates careening into Kol Battle ships. Maybe there should be a ship that does extra damage when it kamikazes, maybe the Siege Frigate because of its nuclear payload. The self destruct idea is cool, maybe every capital ship could have it but they after the process was initiated the ship would somehow make it obvious it was about to explode. I'm envisioning the mad dash as frigates and cruisers flee in all directions to escape the blast.

nah...no warning would be much more amusinglol

you could have it in 3 stages or shockwaves,
1st one would be for the ships in very close proximity - they explode too
2nd would be a emp kinda thing and some heavy damage but not destructive enough to explode
3rd would just be a small emp discharge, disabling ships quite far away from the explosion prob the fast ships that escaped.

would have to be a amazing graphical explosion though

Having your ships suicide should have a negative effect, such as your population on planets goes down, or planets are more likely to revolt against you.

since you've just blown up a perfectly good ship with members of families on them.
wouldn't put it against the citezens of the planets.
but i wouldn't do that......i'm a good tyrant, i mean overlord, no, on third thoughts leader, yeah, thats right.

well how would they ever find out taken down by heavy enemy fire blah blah blah.

maybe summin like for each ship you blow up there is a small chance that some other ships might *gasp* mutiny! would be so cool. also more immediate penalty for blowing up your lovely lvl 6 cap ship

what so your nearly dead Cap Ship limps into the enemy crowd and self-destructs to maximize the destructon around it then you get a penalty for blowing up a ship that was about to go anyway

no I was joking that that could be the cover story to the populace. since when do governemts tell the truth lol? you could self destruct straight away, in fact prolly better if you can no longer self destruct below 50% health as systems have been weakened by damage so it wouldnt help to self destruct anyway.

this was one of my 9 ideas posted here link

6.Self destruct or kamikaze run: sacrificing yourself as you know you are going to die anyway, when all is lost, overload those anti matter pods and take out everyone within range with you, or at least inflict tremendous damage upon them on your way out. (Require a charge up time for this) make it possible for the enemy to notice and begin to fee, you might then run yourself into the belly of the beast by charging toward them as you build up to self destruct.WWW Link

Given the current state of the unit pathing in the game, accidental collision damage would destroy large amounts of your fleets quite frequently. Not exactly a fun idea.

lol, have them meld together when they collide XD

lol...5 capital ships come together and form MEGAZORD

Really, the self destruct thing makes since. The capital ships carry so much antimatter it could really cause some damage.

auto distruct... ramming...

micromanage across 3 fleet battles while one of ur worlds is under seige... grrr, MULTI! i need a thumbs down emoticon!

Its just like the bomb that destroyes planets/systems the idea was discussed and discarded.

If the game had less units and each unit was worth more then the risk/gain factor would be a lot better and more viable for a good strategy game. As in the current state you could easily ram a bunch of smaller ships into one big ship and be in the win just cause you couldnt think of anything else to do.

use that but look at it upside down..

how come my idea of a ram ship was a bad one but the ram ship here is a good one.

the idea i had the ram ship might survive the hit

what you could have is larger ships can be uprgraded to have harder armor so that those small pesky ships ramming you will now blow up on the surface of the ship and not cause alot of dammage

adding on to the ramming idea, you should have some ships that are bording ships or ship outfitted with bording pods so now, adding on from the crew members post, you could have a battle inside of the ship, which also you could have upgrades to the ship to make the crew more hevily armed and prepared so the more crew you have the better your chance of survival,

the self distruct idea for capital ships would be awsome here because if your ship is about to be overrun then you can self distruct killing the sips around you

also multiple ships and be boarding you at a time

Remember guys, not everything is yet implemented, and from what I have heard some of the devs have hinted at the crew being part of the strategy of fleets somehow. (see the Dont forge the Crew thread) I might be wrong and it might just be a cool little fact at the side of your screen. OR it might make things like bording actually real.

it would be cool to see inside the ship and see the crew figting for their lifes

or even better being able to tell the crew what to do, such as move and reinforce a certin part of the ship, but that would be a pain in the butt if your running a whole battle at the same time so you could have preferences on what you would like to protect and allocate a percentage of the crew to protect certin parts of the ship and have AI run it for you

Your starting to get way to complex there.

I agree with Lugge, with the amount of ships you have usually attacking or defending you would be too woried about the 'bigger picture' then saving one ship.
