HUGE save game files.

I hope that is only because it is beta.

Ok, I was wondering recently where all my hard drive space was going. I figured I was downloading to much like I normally do. But when I went to post my save game files for another topic I realized that my save game folder was at 1.5Gb and I had only been playing Sins for a few days. On a closer look I found that the save file I made for a game on a small map was almost 50mb and the one I made more recently on a 4 star map was 57mb.

Yes, in this day and age 50mb is not alot, but when auto-save is active you could easily go over 500mb in a decent play session. I hope that a dev can tell me that these saves are so big because it is saving debug information or they are uncompressed because you have not implemented it yet.

So far this is my only major gripe about Sins, everything else is telling me that Sins will shape up to be a sweet ass game in 6 months.

It's been mentioned that the savegames are currently completely uncompressed, human-readable files to make it easier to find problems/etc atm. So, yes, it's just a Beta thing, I believe.

would be nice to have a set number of autosave slots though... didnt they say they did that for next patch?

Um... your saves are only 50ish MBs?! Did you drop a zero in there or something... mine usually ramp up to anywhere from half to a full gig once my game gets going O.o

i cant seem to find my save game file, what is the name of the folder there in?

:\documents and settings\your name\application data\ironclad games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Saved Game\

You'll find all your saves there. In my case (and most) it'd be the C:\ drive to look at, but it will vary on some computers.

Ya, I'm sure. I was talking about the individual save files. The folder as a whole was around 1.5Gig before I cleaned them up.

Wow...

I just opened up my saved games folder and my current games goes from 27MB to 48.9MB. I have one from the other day that's 88.6MB. :o

Luckily I had turned off the auto save feature for awhile otherwise I'd hate to see what I would have had sitting in there. I had turned it off because of the time it was taking to save the game each time.

Wow...

Eh, 50+ planets will do that to ya (I tend to play larger maps)

lol...that would explain why your saves are so much larger then mine. I'm only doing a game with 4 stars and about 4 planets + asteroids each. I guess that would be "small" by your standards.

Probably, yeah. Admittedly, 50+ planets gets... very tedious in the end-game.
