Battlefleet Gothic

Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

Damnatus is/was a german 40k fan movie. It was really professional (actors from Theatre, synchron speaker for the voices, some good CGI's etc..) made. GW first gave the permission (or at least the people understand it that way) but then denied the release because of some Problems with German and British copyrights.

Most frustrating was the fact that film was finished - ~2 years of work for nothing :(

So good Luck with your project (some things really look good), but if I where you I's try not to get too much attention...

and what is this about "because of GW policies"?

Bah! Don't think about it X, just keep making the mod great :D

Yeah, I'm pretty sure what we need to do so that we don't get hosed:

WWW Link

I think that once we get enough done so that stardock won't sue GW and GW is sure that that won't happen, GW won't make us destroy our work or anything that ridiculous. I bet that if Damnatus had gone through, the 40k IP would've gone into the public domain for some applications. Don't worry, we have completely ridiculous copyright laws here in the states, so there's not much risk of that happening.

BTW, have any of you found anything that you really want changed or think I should pay attention to? Granted, I'm trying to work on turrets mostly, but if anybody wants me to put something else in the update, I'd be happy to (unless it was a huge thing that really deserved its own version, of course).

Prezo, it looks like you did the right thing with the slaughter, you just seemed to miss low. Either that or the center null got moved (which would explain why the slaughter sits so high in the factory).

hmm one of them i did move the model so the center was higher cos it looked too low on all the others but i'm prety sure i moved the model not the center... i'll check it
whats it like on the styx that looks wrong as well

Eh, GW's IP policy is rather relaxed actually. You're allowed to duplicate things they own, as long as it's not for profit, detrimental to GW, not mixed with other IP, fit with what GW plans for BFG and have a disclaimer.

The only thing that could screw us over is if GW decides to license a Battlefleet Gothic game for themselves, then we go the way of Starcraft 2 mod for Red Alert 2 (die)

LOL?

Be aware that we may even have to insist that the mod be destroyed.

Thrawn, note what clause that comes at the end of. It's basically the "you've been a jackass and are about to get us sued, and the only way we can avoid a suit is making you destroy the mod" clause, so I'm pretty sure if we're careful that we won't get hit with that.

Prezo, the center on the styx is right looking, I'm assuming that's the one you moved, but the emitters fail as hard as on the original slaughter. The new slaughter just looks like the emitters are mounted too low, but is otherwise right. It looks fine for now, I wants me a battleship! If we get that, we'll have only BFG models in the mod, and that would be awesome.

You have the model for the Iconoclast right? because i noticed it was the left out escort. :(

In comment to the whole debacle going on, when i read their can/can't do list, it sounded like what we are doing is allowable and to be honest I don't think they are really going to find out about this and if they did, I don't think they would care.

(Yay all BFG models soon :D )

EDIT: Oh yeah what about the GC model, I know the others exist but I havn't seen anything relating to the GC.

yes we do have an iconoclast (if you look back to the begining of the thread i had it ingame at one point) i just gotta get around to importing it again

I wonder who would win, a Covenent Destroyer, or a Cobra class destroyer. Covenent Destroyer half the size, can take 2 lance (energy progector) or 2 wb (MAC rounds) hits ,,, both have hordes of torps... I was reading Sins the manual, and it seems that the ships seem...understaffed. I mean a capship that looks like its at least 100 miles long has 4000 crew??? 40 crew every mile. Star wars is extremely overstaffed... If you disagree, try putting 50,000 in that Covenent Destroyer,,, with some working on systems!!! Try fitting hundreds of TIE fighters in those hangers... Tantive-4 could fit in that huge hangar!!! George Lucas needs to think like a nerd,,, wasting his time on silly things like this...I used 3 of every punctuation!!!???...,,,

remember that each torpedo in BFG is a couple killometers long (correct me if i'm wrong) and pack enough explosive power to cripple a ship up to 7ks long with armor that is meters thick. i dont know what kind of armor the covnent ships have but one of those would destroy anything frigate sized. then again i dont know much about space battles in halo all i know is the master chef makes a damn fine meal

Basically, the capital ship torpedoes are going to be about this size (maybe even larger) but the torps on escorts wouldn't be this big (but they would still be enormous...)

Which is why BFG makes no sense. Just like 10,000 guys die when saving the Emperor each day. I bet the fire button is in the launch tube of the ship, infront of the shell.

You just havn't known the Warhammer 40,000 universe long enough to understand it...I've been into it for years and I have no objections to the scale of it, it's all really point of view. (If 40K is the only sci-fi you knew, you would think it makes sense...and though it's not the only one i know, it is my favorite so i'm loyal to it :D )

(and why is the damn emote chooser screwed up all the time...)
It says in the BFG rulebook that torpedoes are around 200 feet long (I dont know the conversion to meters) and that a cruiser-sized ship is around 3-5 km long. So if you had torpedoes that were a few Km's long, your not going to be able to carry very many >=[ And WRT the scale of the 40k universe.... I agree with it. If you have millions of worlds, with trillions of people, then its logical that hundreds of thousands will die every day. A cruiser exploding alone will cause 12000 deaths (We had a discussion on the Port Maw forum, we concluded that as a rule of thumb, a BFG ship will have 1500 people per hit point)

I can understand why its so hard for the magisterum of Terra to keep track of everything!! You have millions of battlefronts, millions of trade deals, millions of other little problems that would take a million people a million years to sort out! This is made even worse by the fact that messages to and from the worlds of the Imperium could take years to deliver.

(And damn the stupid emoticon thingy, its stuffed!)

thats why they have billion billions of people sorting it out

Yeah, but even then, its still a terrible work enviroment, that the pay isnt worth half of. Hehe.... anyways, headed back to my computer house today, so ill give the latest version of the mod a test. Cant wait to see those escorts!
neither can i... i dont think the newest version of the files has the fix but if you feel adventurous enough i can tell you how to fix it:

open the .mesh file in notepad and right near the top you will find a bit that looks like this
Material
DiffuseTextureFileName "ChaosBasic-cl.dds"
SelfIlluminationTextureFileName "_40kBasic-da.dds"
NormalTextureFileName "ChaosBasic-nm.dds"

see that _ infront of 40k? thats our problem remove it from the name and it should make the textures work

alternitivley you could go and rename the dds file... but thats cheating =P

Hehe, thanks for the heads up!

Hey all, I feel like a dick for disappearing for the weekend, but I just moved, and we only got the internet set up for my computer a few minutes ago. Anyway, I've got a version with turrets and the planet killer ready. Tell me whether you think turrets make bombers suck, what you think of the planet killer (and its main ability) and all that other fun stuff.
Mmmk, first impression of Planet Killer for me is: NOT ENOUGH POWA!!

I don't think it's good enough damage wise (against other capital ships) and its ability (when used against a Desolator) was practically null. So, definetely make the ability a lot better (and is it possible to make it usable on planets???!)

In response to the turrets, I think different values would be nice. Less damage for escorts. And less to start for capital ships but then make it upgradable for more damage as they get higher levels. (Possible thing for armageddon Cannon too.)

I didn't actually get far enough to see the turrets against strike craft but, those are my first impressions...

Plane....Plan....Planner Ki....Planet Killer?!? Hehe, awesome work! Downloading now.... Also, is there a reasion there is no iconoclast model in there? I thought it was already in the game, judgeing by the screenies on the first few pages.

Keep it up!
