I've been here long enough to know that the Singleplayer will consists of scenarios. However, will there be an extensive background story highlighting characters/events/etc (like Halo Wars, Command and Conquer or what Homeworld has evolved into) or will the game's have little background and focus only on gameplay (like Swords of the Stars).

Right now we dont really know if this part truely exists Which is why I'm asking. I sure hope they dont turn this into another Swords of the Stars

The reason why I'm pushing for this is two reasons
1. It would be a lot easier to get into the game if there's a extensive story. Plus this way the game can expand into more areas. (Such as fan fiction community).

2. It would give the game more depth as well as something worth while to study

3. I'm a complete nerd, so after I decided to drop being a Homeworld/Halo nerd I badly need something to get into (jk)

Eh, its almost better if you don't have a story, let the fanfic writers minds go wild! Of course, I'm having trouble with that ATM because I have to figure out a story that won't contradict the "official" story too much when the time comes. Which is obviously just about impossible.

For me, I prefer to write with in a boundary instead of going wild! This way many of the fan fictions can be uniform.

Of course not everyone think this way. My friend called me a fascist because of my opinions. But I would prefer if there WAS some sort of story that's as concise as Homeworld or even Halo. For me contradicting the official story line is very hard unless the storyline is something that I find absurd. If the story is well written and thought out, the writing fan fics should be no problem.

If I were to free write I prefer to work on materials that I created myself.

Same here... what I'm referring to is something like the Master of Orion series, where there is a back story, but it doesn't dominate the entire game (and therefore the stories that come from it).

I wouldn't expect to see a lot of story info until release, myself. But I do believe that Blair has commented that they have a lot of backstory for the universe.
