Empire Tech-tree Logistics/Defensive upgrades?

This is just a thought I had, and maybe it's been discussed before; if it has been, please rip not my head off, for I am fragile.


But why, I wonder, are there no options to use the tech tree and research to expand the number of logistic/defensive slots a system has? Or even just upgrade the number of times you can purchase the Log/Def upgrade from the planet, instead of adding an overall bonus to the whole empire for only the cost of the research?

There are currently techs to expand the amount of logistic slots on Barren worlds. (Making them incredible in the process.)As well as techs increasing the amount of people on Terran worlds. There is also some upgrade concerning ice worlds, but I do not remember what it is off the top of my head.

As much as I like the idea of having more slots, it would mess with balancing quite a bit. I find that the only problems I have with logistic slots is when I play in a very small universe, and I never have problems with a lack of tactical slots.

I think the real solution is to be able to upgrade what you already have, rather than having more of it.

Actually those techs just increase the population cap, AFAIK. Taking advantage of the logistics slots on desert worlds just requires you to upgrade them locally.
