Request: Players per System option

This is just one thing that I noticed, after Yarlec mentioned in IRC that the behavior I was experiancing (with one AI and myself sharing a system by default, and two AIs also sharing another system) was a bug; apparently, all the players are supposed to start off in one place?

I don't particularly care for that idea, so here is my request: A "Players per System" option. When distributing the player homeworlds, the system will automatically pass over a system that has x other players already starting in it, where x is whatever number the player cared to specify (higher than zero, capping out at the maximum number of players in the game.) This will enable longer build-up times for those who like slow, methodical games, while ensuring that those who prefer a nice fast war can get it with relative ease

I agree. Customizability is always good.

The galaxy generator is currently configured to place each player/team with at least one opponent in the same system, populating as many systems as possible in this fashion. By that rule having you and one AI in one system, and two other AIs in the other is perfectly normal.

More options to customize the galaxy generator have been discussed numerous times. The current state is more just a case of beta limitations, AFAIK--I don't doubt we'll see more options such as this in the future.

Honestly that basic rule seems a little stupid. If there are 4 players, and 6 systems, why should only 2 of those start out populated? From a gameplay perspective it seems obvious that anyone playing with few players and lots of systems wants to have plenty of room to expand before encountering enemies, otherwise they'd have more players or less systems. From a story perspective it seems incredibly convenient that only 2 of the 6 nearby systems were populated, and each with 2 species...

Maybe it's just the turtle in me but that does not seem like a good rule at all. A much better one IMHO would be to place 1 player in each system, then if some are left over place 2 in each system, then 3 etc. Seems like there's too much of a 'New World' situation when traveling to other systems, like it's a place where no one lives and your old system is overpopulated by too many species...certainly interesting but not that much fun IMHO.

What is really dumb is that even with 2 players, 10 systems, and 10 planets per system you still start out with the AI in the same system as you. I'd love to be able to set it up so I could start in one system, the AI in another, and have multiple systems between us. To me, that would feel a lot more like a war between 'Solar Empires' than the current situation where it feel like a couple of upstarts who barely deserve the name of Empire at all, and much less Solar Empire since they each have only 5 or so planets when they start fighting.

lol, poor Yarlen.

Anyways, I believe that 'they' have said multiple times that the current distribution system is just because of some betaeyness thingie.

Hopefully it will be changed by beta 3/next patch?

I hope your not referring to the exploitation of the Americas by Europeans, where there were in fact many people living here, and they just got shoved out of the way by the Europeans who divied up their lands without so much as a "howdoyado?". Some of the most shameful, despicable, and horrid acts in history lie in that particular POS attitude.

What I would like is the ability to place specific factions in specific systems. Since the player setup menu comes after the galaxy one, all you would need to do is have the number of systems carry over into a numerical option next to players.

I realize that you want a game to be balanced with the AI, but there is no reason to limit players to having to play that balanced if they don't want to. If a player wants to start in one galaxy and have everyone else start out in another galaxy, so be it. When we finally get access to the other races, we can recreate the Vasari or Advent invasion of TEC space.
