Great Beta So Far: Cease Fire Treaties and Other Accords

In the beta, the other races go in and out of favor too quickly. It doesn't seem real enough. It seems to me that IF you break an alliance, you should pay some type of penalty. Maybe, and it may already be this way, the other races frown upon those that break pacts?? Dunno. In the first game I played, one of the races I had a cease fire pact with kept asking me for help, but I was aligned with his enemy also. Perhaps he sensed that and broke the accord, but something needs to be tweaked I think. Diplomacy is like a MAJOR biggie in computer sims these days and it is a MAJOR reason I chose this game.

Years ago in Rebellion, you had to send in diplomats to do their work. Perhaps we can do the same here. Perhaps it is researched for later and more advanced use? Perhaps each diplomat, like capital ships, gains experience points and so can sway others to our cause like no other. Space battle and resource mining are and have been done to death, but in the Diplomacy factor can this game possibly rise above all others and the cool thing is I think it a simply fix/adjustment. thoughts?

happens in the real world too, but i agree with you

I think they have improved the AI in every way quite a bit for the patch and for beta 3.

They like to not tell us what they're doing so we can have some surprises, so I think you should wait till the end of next week (patch) or the middle of next month (beta 3) to ask taht question

yeah, there should be visible levels of trust and loyalty, so you know where you stand with everyone....

How do you work that into MPlayer?

i disagree. it does not happen THAT often. I don't think France calls England once a month denouncing a cease fire or any other truce for that matter. In REAL life, you do what you can to avoid that, AND in the real world breaking off diplomatic ties or cease fires is usually a sign of tension pre-empting a battle or war or invasion. That's the real world way. What's in the game is, well, a "computer game" way. However, I believe it can be tweaked.

In one of my recent Sins games, I was allied to both sides of a nasty conflict. When I wiped out the 4th player, I figured I had just scored a diplomatic victory-- until I realized that Sins doesn't have that as a win condition. Fair enough, thought I. I then moved my fleets into position above 2 of the main planets in "allied" territory. Once I was in position, I broke our treaties and... it was a fairly easy couple of battles. Then I got caught in the culture bug and ended the game...

This should make everyone else rather leery of allying with me...

naw, in real life THIS is a sign of tension and pre-empting a war.

just thought I'd throw that in the loop...

I have not played the game enough, but I noted that each planet has a loyalty factor. It seems that planets should be able to rebel against you. But I have not played the beta enough to see if this happens.

he couldnt colonize anything so he quit

Pursueing a strategy of scorched earth is much more difficult when the enemy only has to use a kamakize colonizer to hit up a planet you just bombarded and bring it back to full strength.

It's damn-near impossible when you have the capital ship with colonize set to auto-colonize and it auto-colonizes a lpanet that immideately flips. Like that makes any sense whatsoever?

"Look, we just landed from a ship after our forces finished bombing the snot out of it - oooooh, look at all this convincing propaganda in the rubble! Look at all these wrecked cultural values, look at all these cool trid broadcasts of a desperate society on the verge of anhilliation from bombardment! I know! Let's completely remodel our burgeoning society after that of the society we just conquered! And for kicks, let's declare loyalty to the government of that society, and damn the fact that the fleeting belonging to the government we just treasoned against is still in orbit and is now about to - OH MY GOD, WHAT IS THAT!? FIRE RAINS FROM THE SKY! THE END IS NIGHH! Repent! REPENT!!!! - *KSSSSKT!*"

Sorry. It's just that sometimes, things that happen in videogames are so dumb they force me to transliterate the "logic" (heh heh) involved in the process.

Just right-click the akkan's autocolonize, and it won't do it no more

Yeah, when in someone elses culture zone, the first thing you do is turn off auto-colonize on the Arkan BC and Colony Frigates.
