Bioshock Anyone?

WEB LINK

Game caught my eye after a few of you forum members told me about it on MSN.

Anyone getting it this week? Anyone play the 360 demo?

The game is a little creepy, but I find its storyline refrence to Ayn Rand's writing quite refreshing.

Sadly my computer wont be able to give this game enough justice, nor am I the type of person who really enjoys getting the crap scared out of them. Hopefully I will get to play it once my friends get the game

oh and btw, online prices for it
$49.95 at Direct2Drive
$54.95 at Steam

and the DEMO on fileplanet

I was abit shocked when i saw the price on Steam. 55 dollars
For that amount it has to be VERY good. But since theres no multiplayer the game will prolly only be played a 1-2 times or maybe 3 or more by some ppl.
So i did a little search and found it on D2D too for less, plus you get 5 dollars discount of your next purchase.

I do agree with time games should cost more, as they are getting bigger and more expensive to make. Also if the price is going up, the games also need to add more hours to them.

I remember when Red Alert 2 (i think it was) were released, and it cost between 400-500 danish kroner (60-80$) and Bioshock is about 350kr (50$). So the price for RA2 was just insane, and i never got it because of that.

I have ordered it and my copy should be arriving today *taps foot*

Nah, won't buy games with this sort of crappy copy protection.

I mean, basically it's an install protection, how bad is that?

Really, publishers like this go on my nerves quite a lot this days. Ts.

It gets worse than that Vandenburg -- they forgot to mention that the system requirements include an active internet connection. So some people might not be able to play it ATM -- I know I used to have a school-based internet connection to browse the net with, but could only play games at home without 'net access, after all.

Oh, and the start-up sequence is horrific -- you're forced to sit through what amounts to adds for Unreal and Nvidia. As well as a copyright blurb in 5 different languages. Ever single time you boot up the game.

system requirements

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I laugh at you and your "system requirements", I ordered mine for the 360.

That's quite easily fixed. You just need to remove the files for those intros and presto! No more hellish ads. I did it five minutes after getting it off steam (Horrible experience by the way) and its fine.

Not getting it peroid. I refuse to buy any thing the uses this over the top kind spyware/malware. Its as bad a starforce ever was now. install allowed on 2 computers and can only reinstall it i think its 5 times per comp wtf.

Time to dig into the data files then, ./sigh...

The game looks cool and sounds to be ALOT of fun and i enjoyed the DEMO very much.
But... I decided not to buy it, for the simple reason of the insane copy protection'sss

-You can install it 5 times (they just raised it from 2) and if your HD fails or you have to reinstall windows, one of your installs are used. And if you use all your installs, your sorta screwed. I heard that you gotta call them at first, then mail them a picture of your DVD and key, and then you can expect to wait "some" time.

-It installs securerom

-It installs something called a rootkit what ever that is. Some say its bad and opens a door for virues and stuff, but others (might be officials not sure) say its harmless. I just ask myself why are ppl conserned then?

-You are forced to have the DVD in your drive

-You are forced to have an internet connection to enable it. Though i heard it can be done by phone, but for one that has to call out of the country, it can be expensive

-It requires a key, that i can understand, but not the rest

I might have forgotten something, but as it is now they are not going to see a single danish krone from me

... Seeing as how I don't even have a DVD of it, I'd say your wrong on that

www.direct2drive.com -- the only way to go if you hate DVD switching.

That said... it installed a fricking rootkit and secureom!!!!
hehe sorry about that, i should have said:
-If you buy the DVD version, you are forced to have in in all the time.

Oh and i read that the DEMO also installs the rootkit stuff

Grrr.... now I need to find a way to remove rootkits while keeping the game... as if thats gonna happen.

Howdy. Just beat the game myself. I didn't bother with getting it on PC. Instead, I rented it via gamefly.com for my Xbox360. The graphics aren't that much different...anyhow, Wow! The game was very creepy, but good. It took me about 40 hours to beat. There IS an alternate ending, too, but I probably won't play through again just to see it (the ending is determined by accumalative actions in relation to a certain game mechanic, and not just a one-time decision)

My wife came in my office a couple of time while I was playing, and I was so into the game that I didn't hear her. When she suddenly began talking as she was standing right next to me, or even behind me, I about jumped out of my skin!

I would recommend the game to anyone, but encourage you to rent it on the 360. In truth, the multiplayer component - well, im not even sure there IS a multiplayer component to tell you the truth, but I don't see it being anything worth buying the game for. Additionally, the game doesn't have very much inherent replayability, so once you play through the story - and see all the alternate endings if you are so inclined - you'll probably put it on a shelf somewhere and forget it for awhile. Maybe play it some time later just to play an 'oldy but goldy' if you know what I mean. So yeah..rent it, beat it, and take it back. Save yourself about $50.

Buy it on Xbox360. No spyware/malware involved.

Ill see if i can find the link i saw on the forum for the rootkit remover tutorial.

A huge discussion about the rootkit/securerom stuff. Well the forum is full of topic like that..

omg there forum is a mess lol on the first page i see 5 threads about lawsuits , so many angry ppl, and alot seem to want and tell "FTC Consumer Complaint" about there ways to hidden the protections.
You better hurry read them, as i guess they will be deleted soon haha.

edit:

oh and one more security thing i found...

-If you replace hardware in your PC and you dont uninstall Bioshock, you lose one install

Thats because the hardware on the XBox360 sucks. Compared to my computer, it isn't worth spit on a griddle
