Possible Bug?

captial ships

Ok, just updated to the new patch, started new game, selected to include capital ships. Started game, no capital ships were included into the start. Also, did you all disable custom galaxies??? When I tried to create one, it came up with a message stating that the custom galaxies were disabled, and presented the tutorial maps instead.
Why would custom galaxies be disabled??

You need to pick the first capital ship from the capital ship factory.

Custom galaxies are only temporarily disabled due to multiplayer issues we are still working on.

Well, it would have been nice to have that mentioned. Since, with the prior build they automaticly showed up at the start of the game.

Did you read the change log?

I dont see why you would want to choose your cap ship (in exclusion of the hunt the flagship example)
kol is simply superior that early on in the game. Esp. with no serious backup

I've done just fine so far with an Akkan flagship. Sure it's slow as all get out, but the ion bolt has already proven pivotal in more than one battle... including the destruction of the enemy's Kol flagship when it otherwise would have escaped.

interesting, I would have thought that the akkan would be used as an early colonizer (in fact I tried that myself) but it didnt seem effective.

I should try out your way kry

And I've been playing with a Sova... so far it's a bit fragile, but working pretty well microed.

Honestly I tried, but was unable to get to it until this morning and I do see the changes there, thanks for pointing that out

That's why I picked it myself. It doesn't make it go much faster, but it's nice not having to babysit colony frigs. Just take out the pirates, colonize, and move on. But the ion bolt does help it to hold its own in combat, or at least play a useful role.

It's imho still slower then a Kol-colony ship combo. A Kol can clear planets from pirates so fast, that you'll need 2 colony ships to keep up with colonizing them ie. antimatter regeneration for the colonize ability.

It's shield ability also makes it the best capital killer, since with it it can soak up damage like no other ship.

The problem with using the Akkan also as a colonizer is, that you have to spend an ability point for it, which you could have used to either get the flak ability or better shielding with the Kol and it also uses antimatter which you then can't use on better abilities like the Kols Gauss cannon. Using colony ships is very useful, since you then can use their antimatter instead of the capital.

And, last but not least, colony ships are just so cheap, it's no problem to build a second one in the beginning.
