Researching Long range jumps

Travel between stars

After the last patch it seems the 'Long range jumps' research topic isn't needed anymore to travel to other stars. In a game with three computer opponents I saw scouts from all of them fly around my planets and when one of those opponents offered me an intelligence pact, I saw that that opponent was based in another star system (This was very early game by the way).

So, thinking 'What the heck...' I tried sending my fleet to another star without having researched 'Long range jumps' and it worked without a problem.

Is this intentional or a bug? If this is intentional, the research option should be removed or changed to something else (Faster long range jumps?).

It's a bug.

Even though it seems to be a bug, I like it how it is currently. It speeds up the game a bit for a human player, and more importantly, the AI will break out of it's star system eventually now.

So, I would rather keep to current system and change the research so that it speeds up long range jumps, which are very slow at the moment.

Add me to the yes vote on this one!

Add me to no, however with the new research system it should be a tier or so lower. Btw, it seems that the ai still doesn't break out of it's own system because whenever I play the AI just jumps it's ships back and fourth (individually, not in fleet) and isn't able to mount a successful assault. I think it's because of that bug where ships don't always warp out in a group when you send them to another star.

i vote no because we dont know how this might be balancing between the other races. for example the vasari wont have 2 reaserch long range jups cos they have already done it seen as they have been running for 10000 years.
