In game crash

In case no one else noticed, one of the major ingame freeze/crash bugs seems to stem from enemy ships leaving a kill zone. I have been able to consistently reproduce the crash effect.

1. Build a fleet consisting of at least 30 ships (to ensure the enemy retreats and at least one of your ships are firing at withdraw)

2. have them either attack a system containing an enemy fleet, or wait to get attacked.

3. After trouncing the majority of their force and watching them withdraw, focus fire on one of the ships leaving.

It seems that if it is killed right before it jumps out it freezes the game. It should also be noted that I have watched this occur each time at a close zoom level. I am unsure if I can produce this effect if I am not observing the fight. I'll have to try it out. Anyway, let me know if anyone else has been able to reproduce this effect.

Hey Leid... thanks for the tip. If you have a save game of this it would be a huge help - I'm trying to reproduce this as per your instructions, but no luck yet.

Thanks

I think just about any fight with a large-ish number of ships will do it. Make sure it's NOT at one of your planets. As I said on one of my other posts, if you zoom in to watch your enemies be destroyed, you will get the freeze/crash. It may be a matter of timing as they're beatin' feet, getting destroyed and zooming, but for me, it's pretty consistant. The enemy must be retreating. I also find once in a while that if I catch myself from zooming in, the game will stutter/pause just a bit when I zoom out. I use the mouse wheel to zoom, if that helps. Logitech mouse.

If anybody who can get this consistently could save a savegame and send it to [email protected], that would be great. I've been trying to reproduce this all day with no luck.

This happened to me twice last night - let me see if I can reproduce with my saved game right before I massive fleet battle.

I also noticed that the other two star systems in my game only has planets on one side of the each star, and you are unable to scroll around in those systems, you can only focus on an object and zoom in or out...no "manual" moving around...

Which folder are saved games stored? I think I found the save game that reproduces this crash.

Usaria, they can be found here:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

Thanks for helping

I've been getting this bug too =< Could just be me, but changing the hyperspace charge up time to -1.00 seems help a little. Though I still get this bug (when attacking a retreating fleet) it seems that the lockups are less frequent. I've been trying to figure out if (as others have said) the cause has to do w/ targeting and attacking ships as they enter hyperspace but am having some problems. Does anyone know if there is some kind of "EnterHyperSpace" startcondition for abilities?

This is pretty much the same thing I reported a couple of days ago over here

So far it's happened eight times. Each time it's almost exactly the same. I'm attacking the enemy fleet as they retreating. Each time I'm zoomed in to various levels, but always close enough that there are no icons.

Only on one occasion have I got out without having to do a warm boot. On that occasion I was able to kill sins from Task Manager. Not once do I get a minidump.

I had this happen to me once, I was zooming in, and it was an excessively large fleet, even for me lol. 100+ ships against about 75-50 enemy ships engaged in a star system, they were retreating.
