Beta 3 global chat remarks

Didn't have much time, so I only just entered the chat room and left.

However some things I noticed:

The font is very small and difficult to read on my 1280 screen.
The Text box is to small.
Align the names of the chatters and the things they say in columns.

1280x1024, and I didn't notice any issues.

Yeah, really small part of the screens.

Align the names of the chatters and the things they say in columns.

... Why?

Maybe it gets better with bigger fonts / textbox but now it is not easy to follow a discussion.

The current chatbox is just not a 'friendly' way to communicate.

Thanks for the comments guys.  I think a larger screen is defintely in order. Especially after seeing the crazy traffic today.

We need team chat in game cos if you want to talk tactics then u dont want to give everything away.

Oh, that is already in for you
Hit enter to chat, then tab to choose Allies, All, or individuals- Just toggle through! It will stay on your last selection.  I usually keep mine on allies, than switch off for the odd taunt.

I agree on having names and text set apart a bit so it's easier to pick them out in chat. Maybe have your own words in a different color as well?

There are also some issues with kerning (letters too close together causing them to overlap, 't' is a big offender here), and if a single message is more than a line long, the second line overlaps onto the next person's message!

And shift tab goes in the reverse direction.

the text disappears too quickly in game, and honestly I wouldn't mind it just staying there so I can scroll through. Also text messages should insert no matter what screen you are on! I have to leave the diplomacy or research screen to catch what ppl say!

You can scroll back just by hitting enter to bring the chat window up, then using the wheel on it. It's immune to scrolling normally so you don't hit it by accident when zooming on the map.

I realize that, I actually preffered it the old way... regardless the important fact is to have it show up on research and diplomacy screens

When creating a game it would be nice as you are waiting for players to join, to pop back over to the lobby and chat with people asking them to come join and what not....

Yeah, same here, but I can live with the new system. I don't like it, and its annoying as can be, but I can live.

The change was made because certain people couldn't learn to just not try and zoom inside that area. Why they couldn't is beyond me, but oh well.

No, the old way sucked. The current one is a great improvement.

And pressing enter is not much of a problem when I want to read messages. But not being able to zoom wherever I've wanted, that was annoying.

you really should change the font IMO, emoticons dont really work and overall its just not very pretty.

also, after i hit enter and sent a chat ingame, itll think i hit a hotkey

ALSO, i like the idea of being able to see everything that was said in the lobby while you were ingame, but i think you should be able to disable it if you have a slow connection, every bit counts. (haha pun)

ANOTHER ALSO!, i dont really like teh enter+tab idea, i would prefer a shift+enter like in war3 or something like that, not necessary, but it would be nice

finally, is there a /msg command or soemthing like it so i can talk to people outside the game?

You could zoom wherever you wanted, you just couldn't zoom "through" the chat box. Its not all that difficult to not scroll through the chat box, I haven't done it in a while. In fact, I still don't do it, even though I now can -- I don't even notice the lack, thats how easy it was to avoid it.

But you still did have to learn to avoid it--now new players won't have to.

True. Problem is, I can't just go and unlearn it all that quickly. So now I'm at an unfair disadvantage just as big as their rather fair one was!
