Blair did, great replay, I like the techniques Blair used, and I've adapted them to my own play style!

I tried to watch it, but the game exe crashes and I get some kind of mini-dump error.???

I tried to load an old record file and it does not work. These are in the Document Settings folder/....

Do you have the latest patch? (Sins was patched twice today).
No. I did not see the patch. I will look for it and apply.

Great game. Though my question is, was there some kind of agreement before hand that Craig wouldn't directly help Multi? It would make sense since Blair was gimped with an AI. But it just seemed that if Multi and Craig at least partially combined forces it would have been a different game.

But dang Blair, you pumped out those light carrier cruisers right quick and they tore Multi's forces apart. I enjoyed all the capital ship maneuvering as well. I was surprised to see the small amount of research that you did. Essentially jumping straight for what you wanted in the tree and then grabbing that. I don't think you ever researched improved metal or crystal mining. You have opened my eyes to the Sins version of rushing O_O

Craig was away a few times and both (i think) had been up for 2 days without sleep.
It was just to see if the lag/studder and command delays was gone, it was oh and to see Mr Blair in action

I love it when the AI says "why am I here ,and you are not?"

Nice strategy. I'm going to use that

I agree. Very little research. All the money was going into ship production. They did not have time to waste on research (or resources).

I think the research aspect should give REAL advantage for doing it, not some 5% increase in damage. IIRC I think M or C tried to research and trade, and lost.

I seriously think the research tree and reward should be MUCH better. In my games, spamming low cost units is way more better than the 'High-Tech' research approach.

Um, there is an advantage. A powerful advantage.

Why did they not use it in this game? Is it because it was a 'small' map for 4 players?

I really wonder about this question. To me, only getting special abilities and new buildings or ships. Such as in this game: Hangers, Trade Post, Perchican carrier, Gardia Flack, Capital ship, etc.

No where near stronger attack stuff beyond level 2. hmmm. Civics good for inhabit Ice/desert planets, trade and resource depot, Repair, and maybe a broadcast center....by then the game is over.

Maybe in large maps it becomes a real usage more apparent.

OT some, but a large low tech fleet verses a smaller high tech fleet: 'Shield Mitigation' seems to wipe out any High Tech advantage?? Is there a real affect.

Well he did do some combat research. I think he researched lasers early on. But 5% is nothing to balk at. 5% means that the enemy is dying faster than you if he hasn't done the same upgrade. The first laster upgrade is 400c 100m 25c or somthing like that. Thats a 5% increase for a little more than the price of one light combat frigate. If you only did that one upgrade its like having one extra light combat frigate for every 20 that you build. Thats the difference between a win and loss in some battles.

But beyond tier one research... I have to say, you should only be researching to unlock needed ships until your getting close to your fleet cap or are raking in more money than you know what to do with heh.

This only applies to combat research though... at this point the upper echelons of civilian research seem much more worthwhile in the ongoing battle of attrition.

I didn't do much research in this game (partially because I had to feed my AI ally a lot of money and resources), but in the next game I did a military research strat to show the viability (LRM's backed by Hoshiko and Cielos with a small harassment force on the side). In my next online game I'll do a non-combat research strat (probably culture focused) and show the viablity of that.

Quite the other way. Because of shield mitigation, the shield techs are very powerful.

LRMs are quite powerful in masses, especially against Cobalts, but they also die very fast.

But for your culture focused strategy, I really doubt that you'll be able to win any game against a decent human player this way. They will probably just overrun you, destroying your culture centers along the way.

The stupid AI was massed at the sun, and every time pirates, scouts, whatever jumped in it would automatically chase em leaving that fleet (with a nice marza) stuck in the suns grav well. I saw several times the AI attempted to jump to multi's homeworld then a scout showed up, and oh boy! we just HAVE to chase it! lol. The good, or bad thing depending on who's side you were on is that they wiped pir8 fleets, or weakened them before they jumped out of the sun. The one time they missed, the pir8 fleet wiped one of multis worlds (loved the bad tactics crack blair ). Poor multi didnt have a chance with craig asleep at the wheel. GG guys

I must be crazy or something but I can't get it to work. I put the file in the correct spot. I am assuming I need to go into the game and then where do I load up the replay?

You load the replay up in-game, yes. Single player -> load game -> recorded game

start sins -> load game -> load replay

I'm disappointed that everyone goes for the Kol as their first ship, seems to be a trend forming. And I'm also disappointed in the semi-cobalt spam, at least early and mid game. They dominate far more then any other ship as long as they are in a swarm.

I guess I had hoped for a bit more from, IC devs that has had the multiplayer for considerably longer then the players. Though hats off to Blair nonetheless for his performance.

Looking forward to seeing the other viable strategies.

This is what I want to see, as my usual down fall is , I invest to much in research and have a very small fleet that gets steam rolled...

Some people go for other ships. The Dunov for a double-Dunov strat, and I personally tend to go with the Sova.

makes things easy for me

I still cannot believe that nobody realizes the incredible importance of the marza after all this time, tsk tsk.
Embargo Rush

interesting idea. I'll look over the replay.
